An excellent memoir. I think it describes the themes of grief, food and family very well. I loved all the passionate descriptions of food and the fond memories they hold.

I didn't know Michelle Zauner and her band, and am not usually reading memoirs. But in researching books where food played a role, I came across this one and picked it up.

I read it in one sitting. What a beautiful book. I have no personal ties to Korea/Asia and my parents are both still alive, but I was totally immersed. Such a tender, heartwarming, beautiful, moving story of complex relationships, identity, loss, grief and hope.

I honestly have no notes. This was a perfect read.

When one person collapses, the other instinctively shoulders their weight.

(..) So that I could pass it on someday. The lessons she imparted, the proof of her life lived on in me, in my every move and every deed. I was what she left behind. If I could not be with my mother, I would be her.

The descriptions of food were amazing! My favourite part of the book

I had to restart this a couple of times, the beginning was a bit difficult for me to get through for some reason. After halfway point, the rest of the book went quicker and felt smoother, I enjoyed it

I’m so glad I finally picked this book up. Michelle Zauner tells her story in such a beautifully simple and frank way and then suddenly drops in a detail that guts you. I’m not sure it’s possible to read this book without getting emotional. The audiobook is read by the author and added to the emotional impact of the story as well. A tough read, but worth it.
