I really enjoyed this! Addie Baum, born in 1900 to Jewish immigrant parents in Boston, tells the story of her life to her 22 year old granddaughter. Addie is a delightful personality – kind, generous and full of spunk. Addie’s life spans four wars, the depression, a flu epidemic and striking changes in the role of women. Through it all, Addie remains true to herself.

An sweet quick read of an 85-year old Jewish grandmother recounting her life story to her granddaughter. While enjoyable, it only skimmed some important events and issues that would have made it more meaningful and memorable.

"Leslie talked me into trying on a pair of pants, which is all she seemed to own. [...] When I put them on, my whole body felt different and I wanted to see what it could do. I took giant steps around the room and sat cross-legged and rolled around on the floor."

Such a sweet sorry, I didn't want it to end.

I really liked this book - this is a 4.5 for me. Loved the characters, the setting, the story and how it was set up. I really got to know Addie and wish that I had someone in my life like her. I did feel that the writing style of the book was very simple, and would have liked a little more oomph there, but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed.
