  • mystery thriller
  • far-reaching tech company
  • connected serial killings that look like suicides

First, I enjoyed all the previous episodes I’ve listened to or read. Second, I’ve skipped books because I’ve been waiting for them to come out on Audio and maybe I shouldn’t have done that because I really didn’t enjoy the narration for this one. Third, you can read out of order but make sure you read Eve In Overdrive before this one because it leads into this one.

Overall…I wanted to like this more than I actually did…it had an interesting concept but I wasn’t engaged most of the time and found my mind wandering which was mostly due to the narration…I think.

  • The narration by Raquel Beattie…I was okay with her on the first Jolvix Episode because she fit the character better but she wasn’t working for me as Leela.

I get this by watching videos on TikTok. The concept made sense, but the execution lacked refinement. It's not the best thing I've read, but it's also not the worst. It's about mediocre. I also dislike it when the antagonist isn't someone we already know; I had no idea this was part of a series.

On page one there's already a typo. I made it in 2 chapters and it has a distinctly poorly written feel. I don't feel the lure to keep reading.

The relationship between the main characters seemed unfinished, and I had trouble liking the characters. I kept hoping for more to happen. There was a lot of “ wall of text” in the book which made it hard for me to read through and found myself skimming/skipping around a lot.

It's a nah from me. The premise was interesting, the main character is feisty, the 5 minutes into the future setting was intriguing...

But the writing wasn't great. The "banter" between characters was painful, the POVs read like "dear diary" entries and I just found myself skimming, skimming, skimming.

The writing was also very repetitive. Like okay, we get it, Leela is sober. Teddy is handsome. The stalker dude is obsessed. Way to beat a dead horse.

Lastly, the reveal of the killer was lackluster. Big meh, wish I hadn't fallen for the Stellar reviews.
