I started reading this feeling a little sceptical about a husband writing a memoir about his wife. The more I read, the more I grew to love this memoir, which is really, a long love letter from John Bayley to Iris Murdoch. Much of it describes Murdoch’s descent into Alzheimer’s. So sad for such a brilliant mind. He also describes their eccentric lifestyle, with hoarding and a definite lack of housekeeping. I did read some of Iris Murdoch’s novels quite some time ago and may revisit them if my “to read” stack allows.
