“But I'm not terrific, Charlotte. I'm just about average for a pig.”
“You're terrific as far as I'm concerned”, replied Charlotte, sweetly, “and that's what counts. You're my best friend, and I think you're sensational.”

Beautifully written, although I wish I had read this book when I was 10, at which age I would I have given it five stars no doubt. Having read it almost in succession to Courage to Be Disliked, however, I couldn’t help but notice how in the eyes of the authors of that book, Mr. White was sending all the wrong messages to children regarding vertical friendship and external gratification :-))
I read this book when I was a kid and I remember myself crying. It is a beautiful story of friendship and love. Nevertheless the sad ending, I still remember it as one of my favourites.
