Read this with my little one and was bothered with different things throughout, like how Fern was into Ferris wheels and boys at the end which had nothing to do with everything else in the story, and the subtle messages this book might send with characters’ gendered roles, and more. Not a book I would want to read again with any of my kids.

This book is cute. I always get sappy when I read it and cry when the end comes. I did not enjoy it near as much as I recall enjoying reading this as a child. However, this time throughI tag it with my kids. They loved it.
I have, of course, read this book many, many times, especially as a child. I haven’t read it for a long time, but my 8 year old granddaughter was visiting this month. I had been wanting to read it to her via video call, but she is too busy when we call to sit for a book. So her visit offered the opportunity. I brought the book and a recording of E.B. White reading it on our trip to Santa Fe, so we could listen and I could show pictures. We finished it side by side on the couch the next day. Steve, who was driving, caught my eye often as we listened, and sat across from us on the other couch. GD curled in my lap to follow along in the book, so I could not see her face, but Steve’s eyes were shiny and my eyes stung as we listened to E.B. White tell us of Charlotte’s death, all alone. Then, we listened to the end, with Templeton grown enormous, with Fern drifting away to be more social, with Wilbur making friends year after year with Charlotte’s progeny.
This book is a once-a-century book. It should not be neglected. It deserves all the re-reads and then some.

Such a sweet story that I really enjoyed. The writing is so gorgeous and brings the story alive in the most wonderful way. And boy does this book know just how to break my heart.

I watched the movie about a bajillion times when I was a kid but didn't read the book until now (when I'm decidedly not a kid).
The movie followed the book very closely, so there wasn't much new in the book. This also meant that I thought I was emotionally prepared because obviously I knew what was going to happen. So why did I cry like four times?
Ughhhh. This is some book.
4 Stars

This was my first time reading Charlotte’s Web and I was pleasantly surprised. I of course knew the general story before reading. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of reading this book. I felt like it was well written especially for the target audience, and I can see why this book is beloved. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
