Part of a challenge where I ask my husband to pick books for me—one per decade of the 20th century. This was the pick for the 1950s.
I have an interest in children literature. Especially the classics. But I still have so many to read that have never been part of my childhood (partly because I didn’t know English as a child—we had other books to entertain us). Charlotte’s Web *was* one of this blind spots in my knowledge that I’m so glad to have filled! It was honestly very charming. I don’t have much more to say about it. It was charming and sweet and a little sad (yes, I cried) and made me smile a lot. I’m taking away .5 star mostly for a few details regarding Fern that annoyed me (the whole thing with her friend Henry seemed more fitting for a girl a little other than 8yo, the scene with the mom and the doctor, and the fact that she missed the ribbon ceremony at the end)
