Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back was a fun book about a lion who may have started off as a regular lion, but eventually he starts to grow and change after meeting some hunters. It was a highly entertaining book!

I like Shel Silverstein, but this was awful. It was his first children's book...happy to know he became a better storyteller.

I read this one with the boy I tutor. He and I both enjoyed it very much. It's funny and the illustrations are awesome.

When I was a kid I loved this book because it was a goofy story (a sharp shooting lion who loves marshmallows, so silly!) and was full of Silverstein's clever turns of phrase.
But as a grownup there are other lovely bits of humor to enjoy, as well as a pretty honest look at identity and depression. Definitely holds up!
First read in 1987.
Reread in October 2016.

I haven't read this in years and years, so the 5-star rating is to be taken with a grain of salt. That said, though, as a child I LOVED this book. I read it over and over and over. To this day I think it would be fun to have a suit made from marshmallows! :)

It is such a cute book! The ending was kinda cheesy, though.

I liked this book because,it's funny. This book is about a lion who ate a hunter and learned how to shoot a gun. Then a man,who had a circus, came into the forest and took the lion with him. The lion turned very rich and wanted something new to do. He went hunting, and he saw his old friend lions. Both the hunters and the lions wanted him to be with them, but the lion didn't want to kill lions, nor people.

bit of a hefty tome for a kids book. (i don't know what kids like 🤷🏾) and kind of a sad ending!
Moderate: Gun violence, Classism, Animal cruelty, and Murder
I tagged Classism because the taxi cab broken English is pointed out and I just feel like that's elitist. It's New York, man. He's drivin' here.chaz21's review against another edition
