Wat heb ik in vredesnaam gelezen? Ik moet echt nog janken om hoe de marketing voor dit boek zo verkeerd is geweest. Het was een soort 'instagram vs reality'. Mijn verwachting, en hoe het boek is neergezet, was dark academia. De realiteit? Een totaal niet origineel verhaal over een lief, doelgericht meisje die valt voor een foute, arrogante, rijke jongen die haar steeds laat vallen.
Oh en die kleine verhaallijn van een leraar die seks heeft met een studente, waarna ze zwanger raakt en dat gewoon heel vluchtig benoemd wordt en helemaal niet gek gevonden wordt?
Het boek ziet er echt prachtig uit qua uiterlijk maar ik ben nog nooit zo teleurgesteld in een boek als dit.

Terrible. At least the Dutch version.
You see, it was a normal day. I was walking around the bookstore, happily looking at all of the gorgeous books, when I saw a dark academia cover sticking out between the pink books. I picked it up, read the back, and thought “yay a dark academia mystery”. My grandma bought it for me. I was delighted.
BUT as it turns out, it’s a fucking romance. And not dark academia at all. Just because it’s an old school, doesn’t make it dark academia.
About the mc’s:
Ruby: boring, not like other girls type of mc, who then acts completely like other girls by ignoring the bazillion red flags. But hey, he’s a hot guy.
James: this is the hot guy. Yeah, no thanks. Blud uses drugs, drinks alcohol, carries insane amounts of daddy’s money in his pockets and thinks every girl wants sex. No. He’s also a cheater.
Alistair: my lil’ baby, who was nice to ruby and not an absolute prick like all of James’s other friends. My gay boy falls in love with a dickhead that doesn’t deserve him, doesn’t want the relationship to be public and still touches other girls, but at the end of the book Alistair takes sweet revenge with a hot tattooed guy. I’m a simple girl, I just want a happy Alistair.
About the story:
Fuck it. Too many red flags. Not gonna sum ‘em up here, if you really wanna know torture yourself by reading the book.
ALSO there was a sex scene and I don’t know if it’s any good in English, cuz in my native language, I wanted to kill myself.
The worst part? It’s a YA according to my sources. Correct me if I’m wrong though, because I hope so.
YA= 12-18 years.
12. Let that sink in for a sec. A sex scene, and a very explicit one, in a book for YA.
