An enjoyable tale and an improvement over the previous one.
Nit yet sure whether this is my favourite of the three Elric novels I have read since a reread of the 1st one is needed to remember what happened in that one.
Still this is what I expected from an Elric novel and hopefully the series carries on this way.
One step closer to the legendary conclusion in Stormbringer!

Meandering stories. Some intriguing moments, but overall repetitive structures. Lack of characterization of secondary figures

This leaned quite heavily into the Sword and Sorcery label; it felt reminiscent of Conan, which I can only imagine was one of the sources of inspiration for this series at large. While I'm now convinced that Elric will never be a favourite for me, I think I'll continue to enjoy discussing these with my reading group and I always enjoy making my way through series that have been influential to the genre as a whole.
