Just what I needed. I love books about creepy old houses. At first the book gave me strong Burnt Offering Vibes with a touch of The Shining (just because the main character is an author). Then it turned it around.

A tragedy prompts a family to apply for a chance to live in a huge old house (life goals). Once there, things start happening. Is it ghosts? Crazy people? What is going on?

I really enjoyed this read. It was fast and just what I needed

After Adam and his wife lose one of their twin boys they apply to live in an old manor in England.

What do I say about this. The description of the book sounded great but the descriptions of the sex scenes were very uncomfortable and I read steamy monster romance. The way he got horny in a home they were touring and not even living in was so creepy. Same with other sex scenes just yuck. So much information dumping I had to kept focusing. He tells his wife she’s overreacting when she gets upset and then tells his son don’t be scared they were joking when a group of people break in during the middle of the night. Huh? Adam behaves so unbelievable and his thought process, which is ALWAYS explained made me annoyed and dislike him. His son is supposed to 12 but he sounds like hes a toddler. I had a very hard time getting through this book.

DNF 51% What horror? What ghosts? When it is going to get exciting? It took until 30% before they moved to the house and now I am 20% further and STILL nothing happens and I am just bored.
Also I found it just creepy how the dude got horny (and then tried to have sex with his wife) when he saw someone have sex on his property. Ewwww.
And really nothing happened. There is yet to be something scary, I mean, it started off scary with the death of Jacob and almost death of Henry, but that is it. I was hoping with the passageways that maybe something scary would start, someone walking around, feeling like someone is watching. But nope. It just keeps on dawdling and I am wondering when it is getting scary.
If you call a book horror at least make it scary.

This book was a good read for horror mystery. It really didn’t pick up until the end, but it was well written and engaging the entire time.

This book let me down. I was expecting something scary or at least creepy but it didn't work out that way for me. The plot needed to move faster and have more going on.
