3.5 stars - Honestly, I would have had no idea what "trimming the tree" would refer to if I had never heard of it before. And the popcorn measurement misinterpretation is understandable as well! Amelia Bedelia just helps bring to light all of the pitfalls of effective communication lol.

This was so nostalgic. I loved this book when I was a kid. I remember my grandmother reading this to me and I thought it was hilarious as a kid.

I find Amelia Bedelia so funny. In some ways she is literal and other ways she isn’t. It depends on if it is funny or not. Stuff the stocking - she makes stuffing to eat and stuffs the stockings. Trim the tree, she trims the tree with sheers. Hang colored balls on the tree, she gets sports balls like basketballs and hangs them on the tree. It’s like she is from another country with no understanding of any of our rituals, but it does make for funny reading.
The nephew giggled at Amelia and said she wasn’t very smart. She doesn’t know how to do anything. That tickled him. He gave this 4 stars.

When I was a kid, I was beyond irked by Amelia Bedelia. She was so absurd, and I was so serious. Now that I'm older, the kooky behavior of the maid still makes me shake my head, even if I understand the point of the character.
Now, however, I am most bespeckled by Mrs. Rodgers, who continually entrusts Amelia Bedelia with vague lists of tasks that are sure to confuse. Mr. Rodgers is realistic; he's like, "Yeah, it's a mess, but let's make the best of a cake with paper and rocks in it." Mrs. Rodgers is appalled each time, to which I ask: If you know the fire is hot, why keep putting your hand out to be burned???

Amelia Bedelia is at it again! I grew up on these books. Delightful. Is that mr. Rogers as Santa Claus? ;-)
