Took me a while to get into, but once I did I was enveloped by the neighborhood. The writing style makes it unlike any other book I’ve read before.

Elena, my birthday twin, where have you been my whole life

easy 5 stars - there’s something so visceral about the writing that sucks you right into their lives. reading about them as children sets such a strong foundation for the rest of the books and makes my heart hurt the more I think about how it all comes full circle

never read writing like it ! I loved it and I love the complexity of the female characters and the constant inner monologue

I so wish I had a way with words the way authors do, so I could convey exactly how this book has made me feel.

From the very first page I was hooked. I wanted to keep reading but also savour it. I wanted to devour the entire book whole and knowing there are 3 more books only makes me happier.

I will get my hands on the rest and read them all no matter what

The best character-driven book I’ve ever read.
The best depiction of what girlhood is.

if I ever had any doubt that Italians are the worst among us, this book ERASED them. an incredibly dense, slow bildungsroman that feels like slogging through quicksand when reading it. oh, and the cliffhanger in the end? FORGET IT. I can go my whole life without reading another Elena Ferrante.
