Reread May 2024:
I still love Daniel and Rory's romance so much! So much cuteness! So many tears! So many found family vibes! And so much drama! I cannot wait to finally read the next book next month and get some resolution to the ending of this book. I need to know what happens next!

Original Read September 2021:
I’m literally the heart eyes emoji right now! And OMG! That ending! I need the next book now!

Excuse me while I scream about that cliffhanger ending, OH MY GOD.

Daniel and Rory's story, and HEA, were absolutely magical: romantic and heartwrenching, at times, lovely and soft and also very sexy *approves*

I've always wanted Daniel to get his HEA and this book just confirms it: he deserves the world (and also very hot lovemaking with an immortal fea with unexpected accessories) and I'm so happy with the way his story unfolded and developed. He's still vulnerable and anxious and scared and traumatized, but also strong and capable and gentle and sweet, and his healing process was treated with such respect and gah, I love him so much.
Rory was absolutely lovely too: respectful and nice and gallant. I loved his relationship with Cian more than anything though: S.J. Himes did a fantastic job portraying their bond and the gut-wrenching pain of nearly losing each other. I'm officially Team Cian: he's a bit unhinged, a bit violent, a bit of a serial killer *cackles* but I thoroughly adore him.
The story was original and action-and-magic-packed as usual, and I love how well S.J. Himes blends history and the supernatural together. Their world-building too, was, as usual, amazing and complex and after THAT ending I'll be (im)patiently waiting for book number six (and also Cian's story).
ALSO: ANGEL AND SIMEON ARE BACK AS LEADS *happy dance* *shrieks* *sobs* I cannot wait to get my angry, ruthless necromancer and his overprotective, sexy, vampire mate back.

Absolutely loved this 5th book in the series and am sooooo happy it is not the final book in the series! So many good possibilities for more fantastic stories.

This book centers on Daniel, a sorcerer and Angel’s apprentice and Rory, an ancient Fae High Sidhe warrior, older than time. They finally get their story. If it’s been a while I would recommend reading book one again as there are a lot of references to how Daniel came to be Angel’s apprentice and what horrors he suffered. Reading book two as well will help solidify your understanding of Daniel and Angel’s relationship and introduce Eroch’s relationship as well.

So many facets of the previous stories are pulled together here and several mysteries explained. But we are left with another mystery that will lead us into book six.

I love this author’s writing and the feelings and emotions of the characters are expressed so beautifully. I really enjoyed getting to know more about Cian and as I have been pulling for him to get a HEA, I am hoping his rehabilitation, begun here, continues. The book doesn’t even come out until tomorrow and I am already jonesing for the next one! Such a great series and one you will further enjoy after your initial read by listening to the audiobooks, beautifully performed by Joel Leslie.
