If you like Dystopian fiction (think The Hunger Games) you may want to read Starters by Lissa Price. Callie lost her parents when the "spore wars" wiped out everyone in the population between the age of twenty to sixty. Society now has a new set of rules favoring the "Elders", who have jobs, wealth, and security. Young people without a legal guardian, called "Starters" have been reduced to squatting in abandoned buildings, stealing food, and fighting off renegades to stay alive. Callie and her friend Michael have been on the run, trying to protect Callie's younger brother, Tyler. When Tyler gets sick and Callie gets desperate, she turns to "Prime Destinations" a disturbing business that allows Elders who want to be young again to rent the bodies of Starters. Unfortunately, the nuerochip planted in Callie's brain malfunctions, and she wakes up in the body of her rich renter, living in a mansion, driving her expensive cars, and meeting the son of a Senator at a night club. During phases where she can communicate with the renter, Callie discovers a sinister plot at Prime Destinations, and is horrified to learn that her renter plans to use her body to commit a murder! The plot thickens when Callie discovers that her renter had a real grandchild named Emma that also worked for Prime Destinations, and she never returned from her "job". The sequel to the book, called "Enders" is due to be published December 4, 2012! Here is a link to Lissa Price's website: http://www.lissaprice.com/?page_id=11

I thought this book had a very engaging story line and kept me involved the whole way. It lacks a little in writing quality, which is why I gave it a three instead of four stars. However, I do recommend it and read it quickly without wanting to put it down.

Reminds me of Hunger Games & Divergent...drew me in from the beginning! Great YA read!

The whole idea sounded good enough. Although it is another book of a post-apocalyptic society, it is not the same as we are used to read.

The author has this obsessive fascination for the expensive life, the opulence, which distract the reader from the story and the plot. One is reading the actions of Cal, and then the next pages are the illogical, disgusting description of the Kardashians... (not really but almost).

I guess that is the intention of the author to portrait her life (I mean the "about the author" is just describing where she has been and that she walked with elephants... nobody cares...)

Then, this book becomes a chick flick. An obsessive perfect Disney life in which all silly girls wish to be Cinderella. It was a cheesy allusion to a cheesy story...

I thought this will be some kind of story in which the teenager saves or tries to save the world, but it becomes to be more "realistic" type of teenager.

The whole love story part was nice but then it became, again, a Twilight threesome in which the stupid teenager cannot chose one guy over the other.

The twist at the end of the book was nice, and that is the only reason why I will, in a long future, read the second book.

I have been wanting to read this book since it came out, but have been putting it off. When my digital library finally got it I was psyched! Then after I read it all I could think was why didn't I read it sooner! So here's the breakdown:

THE PREMISE

Callie squats in a building with her seven year old brother and her friend Michael. They are both minors and are not allowed to work so they must scavenge what they can. Getting food and even water is extremely hard to do. If they are caught, they could be put into the institution, a place where unclaimed minors go. So when the marshals come and kick them out of the building they are forced to run. With no place to go and all of there possessions are gone, Callie has one choice, she must go to Prime Destinations where she can rent her body out to the Enders, who are old people. (people live way into their 100's in this time) When Callie wakes up at the Enders house and learns she has only rented her body for a week when she should have rented it for a whole month, she realizes something is wrong. After a voice in her head tells her not to go back to Prime Destinations things start to change.

This book was awesome! The premise was great, the character were great and the ending was so surprising!

THE PROS

1. Callie was an amazing heroine! She was facing her fears to ensure that her brother could live a better life.

2. Helena, Blake, The Old Man, Micheal, and Tyler were great they had depth and great personalities.

3. The mystery as to why everything was happening took such a drastic twist at the end, left me desperately waning to read the next book!

4. The Villain was awesome, he was creepy, yet you wanted to know more about him.

THE CONS

1. I highly doubt that taking down a corporation sponsored by the president would have been that easy, but I get why the author didn't want to write about how long it took them to win against the evil corporation.

2. The ending raised some serious questions and I don't know how I'll make it to the next book!

OVERALL

This book definitely made my top reads of 2012!! Lissa Price is an AMAZING author, like super awesome. One of the best things was I really didn't see the end coming. Normally in a book I can figure out at least part of what will happen, but in this book my mouth dropped open! LITERALLY!! I was shocked! I really can't wait for the next book to come out! That's the other great thing there were a planned two books. It's not gonna be a trilogy!! That makes me so happy! (Even if it was a trilogy I would still read the books. I just feel that so many authors are dragging out their series forever!

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: YES

WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YES

WOULD I REREAD THIS BOOK:WITHOUT A DOUBT

WOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: YEP!!

WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR: DEFINITELY, I LOVE HER WRITING STYLE

AM I HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: WHO WOULDN'T BE!!
