When I read this back in middle school I was of the firm opinion that Will>Jem and nothing could change my mind. I was very vocal about it. I've since been informed that this is a terrible opinion. I thought I'd give it a reread to see what was up.
Turns out the thing that got me most riled up emotionally was the precious bean that Henry is and how young Charlotte is and how goddamn awful Tessa's brother is. I didn't even have time for the will-they-won't-they of the teens.
Jem is still a bit too earnest for me in general but that speaks to personal preference rather than what might be best/wanted in Tessa's case.
Did not end up rereading the rest of the series and I can't remember it, so consider this a 1/3 informed opinion.

It's a fav and will always be a fav.

“Sometimes,” Jem said, “our lives can change so fast that the change outpaces our minds and hearts. It’s those times, I think, when our lives have altered but we still long for the time before everything was altered—that is when we feel the greatest pain. I can tell you, though, from experience, you grow accustomed to it. You learn to live your new life, and you can’t imagine, or even really remember, how things were before.”

don't you just love it when jem talks? because I adore him.

He cleared his throat. “I promise you, the right man won’t care.”

Jem & Will really had me blushing and kicking my feet in the air. And don't even get me started on the attic scene...

“My name is Herondale,” the boy said cheerfully. “William Herondale, but everyone calls me Will. Is this really your room? Not very nice, is it?” oh boy.

This book was kinda slow at first so I had to drop it multiple times to start another book. It took me longer than I expected to finish it but I think it was worth it.

The plot twists were predictable but I don't think it bothered me that much cz I was reading for the characters and really didn't care whatever happened. I love jem and will and the way they're so different from each other yet they have the best friendship.

I really hated Tessa when I started it. I found her annoying, childish and giggles a lot which is something I despise. And those sexist comments she made didn't help at all (yeah I know it's part of her character development). But halfway through the book, I think it was the scene when she finally stood up for herself in front of will, charlotte and jem will that made me like her. I loved her conversations with jem the most because he always knows what to say, my beautiful silver haired boy.

I really liked The Clockwork Prince! I loved diving deeper into that Victorian-esque Shadowhunter world. The “will they or won’t they” tension between Will, Tessa, and Jem kept me hooked the whole time. Some parts dragged a tiny bit, but the characters and drama totally made up for it. Definitely a fun read if you love complicated relationships and a richly detailed world.
