This was a great read! I always love the characters Cassandra Clare weaves up in her mind. I do wish there had been more details in this book though. It seemed a bit rushed. Onto the next one!

i went into this book with higher expectations than it managed to meet really. the characters are strangely written, and their interactions didn’t ring true. e.g, henry and charlotte are supposed to be the authoritative figures of the group, yet they constantly fail to come across as capable leaders. so this mismatch between who the characters are meant to be and how they actually behave made it difficult for me to take them seriously or connect with them in anyway.
the love triangle didn’t improve things either, since i generally dislike that trope.
by the end, instead of feeling excited to continue the series, i was stuck in a reading slump.

Where do I even begin with this beautiful piece of literature? With its mix of my favourite genres urban fantasy, historical fiction and one of my favourite time periods, I knew I was going to love it and I cannot express the rollercoaster of emotions that I went through. I related to the characters and I loved them especially Jessamine and Jem, they just stood out for me the most. Will, is almost mysterious and I want to know more about who he really is. Tessa the main heroine feels a little flat at times but mainly confronts the issues she has so she isn't too bad. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series because I didn't expect the first book to be so GOOD.
