Its been many years since I've read this series. It lives up to how much I love it. Every time Jem is on page, just imagine me pointing to the page, smiling and saying "YEAHHHHH, MY BOYYYY" in a deep voice lol

Meh. I liked the newer ones better. Trucking through the rest of it though.

not as good as Chain of Gold, but still plenty of fun! i quite liked discovering more about characters i already knew from the sequel, and it's always nice to understand their evolution. but i think that the start of this series is weaker than its sequel: the plot is quite obvious, the characters are rather one-dimensional, and it is not as gripping as The Last Hours.

my main "problem" with this first book is mainly tessa. while she appears strong and fair in the future, i find her seventeen year-old self quite judgemental. she always comment on sophie's appearance, and is quite hypocritical toward jessamine - even though the latter is a pain in the ass, tessa can be as bad as her sometimes. but i have the hope that she will evolve and become a better person in the next two books!

i just finished clockwork angel !!! i think im officially obsessed with the shadowhunters.  the moment will saved tessa from the dark sisters, i knew this was going to be a 5 star read. this book is exactly what my 12 yo self would have devoured (and even now in my 20s, i still would), and the fact that it’s set in london, my dream city—already had me hooked from page one. the whole vibe of victorian london mixed with this secret world of demons, magic, and runes? chef’s kiss. and it wasn’t just all drama either; there were genuinely funny moments that had me smiling like an idiot. the storyline was so smooth and easy to follow, nothing felt messy or rushed. also, I love how every character felt real and alive, like they just jumped off the page.

now let’s talk about will herondale my new book boyfriend AAAJKSSJSJ, tessa Gray, and jem carstairs… im in love with all three of them in completely different ways. will is chaos and charm wrapped in one, tessa is such a strong and likable heroine, and jem… just pure soft boy energy, my sweet angel. chapter 18 absolutely left me flabbergasted, like i literally had to put down my phone to process. im not kidding when i said, i didn't see that coming lol. the twists, the emotions, the tension… i need more. im so excited to keep reading and explore more of this world because if the rest of the series is anything like this, im never getting over it.

I started with the Mortal Instruments series and honestly, I didn't like it. Surprisingly, I decided to give this series a try anyway, because it wasn't the idea of Shadowhunters that was bad but the execution in the MI series. I'm pleased to say I like this one more. The characters are not as annoying and immature and there is a decent plot that's moving along. I'll jump to the second one to see how it goes on.
