Those of us who review children's books and serve on book award committees are encouraged to focus on what the book is -- not what it's not. So I appreciated this book about rockin' what ya got. (Tangent: It makes me think of Todd Parr, a children's book author who is arguably not the most sophisticated artist or writer, but I really love his books because he rocks what he's got -- positivity, acceptance, and a lot of bold wacky colors.)
It certainly feels like the picture book market is saturated with books telling children to be who they are (and that's not a bad thing). I'm not sure if this book really stands out in the field generally. It does highlight the creative process so would be a good book to share with a budding artist or in a creative writing class for young people.
I also liked Berger's rhyming text. It was very bouncy and memorable.

I loved this book! There’s body diversity on the page, a body neutrality through line, and illustrations of self-acceptance and kind self-talk.
If there was anything to be added, it would be a grappling with how you can work to become the person you want to be in the body you have- although the ending leaves room for the reader to imagine that aspect of the story.

This book is 100% straight up wow. Everyone should read this book. But especially those who are susceptible to falling prey to societal pressures on what we should or shouldn’t be. I’m floored.
Adults:
Read this book when you are having a bad day.
Read this book when you're feeling down on yourself.

Loved this fun story and the illustrations. "Rock what ya got" will be my new mantra, for sure!
I kinda adore this book. I want to give Viva a hug & share her with all the little (& not so little anymore) girls I know. That dedication says it all. And the illustrations!
I liked this quirky book with the message of being yourself. The illustrations are colorful and fun. This could be a good group discussion book.
