This Maisie Dobbs novel features the young women pilots who had a dangerous role in WWII, "ferrying" military planes from one airfield to another.  The job was dangerous for two reasons - the planes had no defense against Germans shooting them down, and many of the planes were being moved because they needed repair.  As usual, there were also interesting new characters, good times with Maisie's extended social circle, and an exciting plot, in which she has to prevent the assassination of a very famous American. I read it all in one evening and am now ready for the series finale, which comes out in a month or so.

It's been way too long since reading the previous books. But still enjoyed this one.

Jacqueline Winspear hits a particular spot every time. A 4 is a little generous but in the genre she really in one of the best. The Maisie Dobbs series is the perfect place to go if you just need to disappear for a few hours, you know, the time when the world is all a bit too much and you need to step out for a while.

The next installment of the Maisie Dobbs series, I found this one to just be okay. The story wasn’t quite as gripping as the last one for me, but still a decent period escape.
