This was ok. It had many slow moments and I found myself getting lost but the tones of found sisterhood, hardship & rebuilding was interesting to read in this context. It did feel eerie at times I just wish it captivated me more than it did.

Just read this book!

Mr. LaValle’s writing is outstanding and this is one of the best books of 2023. The stories of women homesteaders are rarely told, and hearing about Black ones is even more rare. Loved this book.

Anti-climactic. Interesting setting. Lacking in scary.

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

I didn't realize what type of horror it is, which seems silly now, reading the blurb. If you like horror and monsters, it seems like a great book!

adventurous dark

This is not the type of book I am normally drawn to - a little too unrealistic/magical. Initially it felt too melodramatic - but I settled in and loved it. Author’s afterward worth reading as well.
