“You want to write for the world but you can’t figure out what the world wants.
If you write for a trend, it’ll be over before you can get a word out. If you write for fame and fortune, your work will lack authenticity.
So, remember, writing is a journey inward, not out.
Write for the simple joy of knowing your own thoughts.
Write for yourself.
That is what the world wants.”

I’ve always loved Leav’s prose & poetry because countless times she had explained my feelings through her words better than I ever could.

although i didn't enjoy this as much as i did the previous books, some of the poems were still very lovely and meaningful. i particularly liked the poem "my mother" because it was very touching and struck a chord with me.

nothing new; the book was quite a hit or miss. i liked a few poems, but most of them were just surface level. again, nothing new.
i really liked:

“Wonder
The first thing you sent me were fireworks. Sparks of light and color over a bridge to nowhere. I was already in love when we met that summer; I belonged to someone else. To make room for you, I had to ask the world for permission, but every answer was a dead end. But who am I to blame them for telling me what I already knew?

So, I danced around you like a storm, white light against the cool black sky, like strobe lights flickering on and off. I said we could be something, you and me. I said so much and meant it, but never proved it to you, did I? We both know what my word was worth, you and me both.

You took my hand under a Ferris wheel, spitting light, spinning lies. You dazzled me, you know. You were incandescent. I don't think we could have been anything, not really. But isn't it something to wonder?”

and

“You turn him into poetry because you can't have him any other way.”

I personally loved this book, I got it back on my 20th birthday, having wanted to delve more into poetry but only really having experienced it via GCSE's (sad I know).
Lang's writing brings all the feelings out me it, it inspires me, and makes me write, reflect and really become more intune with my feelings and heart. I honestly couldn't recommend enough.

This was my first poetry collection by Lang Leav. I’ve heard good things about her previous works, I just never had a chance to read them myself so I am grateful for this opportunity.

I found this collection interesting because hers words felt both light & fluffy as well as raw & emotional.

I felt the theme of love and heartbreak to be very relatable, and they parts you cannot relate to, Lang paints the picture with her words creating the reader to empathize.

I enjoyed this collection and will be looking into her past collections.

*I have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

My first Lang Leav, and I must say I'm disappointed. This reads more like diary entries or a collection of personal thoughts. The problem is, they don't evoke any feeling nor rich in imagery. They are not deep, nor they trigger me into some deep contemplation. Most of them are flat and forgettable.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing a review copy.
