Gault strikes again

Set in the fall, giving some cozy with the crazy.
You think you know everything there is to know about Gault- but you do not.

The ending has me crying. I can't even imagine a mother doing that to her child. Especially since there was sexual assault evidence present. The lack of seminal fluid makes sense now. This book literally hurts me. I knew it'd be tough when it started with a dead girl about the same age as my own.
I liked the Lucy side plot.

The mystery was interesting but I felt it was mostly build up and such a quick resolution at the end of the novel that left me feeling unsatisfied. It was irksome that the book is a stand alone novel but heavily references a crime in a past novel that I felt as though I had missed part of the story.

I had forgotten how quickly I get swept into these novels. My only hesitation is when the story veers onto Lucy, the niece, or other family of the protagonist. This one was weaved in quite well, so there wasn't anything to distract. A fun read.

As always, a gripping story from Patricia Cornwell. I haven't read a book of hers I didn't enjoy. Her writing style paints fascinating pictures and is rich and descriptive. Looking forward to From Potter's Field.

The mystery was about par, but the random romance lines with Wesley and Marino were unnecessary and completely out of left field. There was no build up in the previous books and it really weakened the likeability and integrity of all the characters. Overall an extremely disappointing decision.

Has a good and interesting twist to it. If you're into current police procedurals this might be a bit outdated, but still a very interesting and entertaining read.
