Somehow, though, there was not enough Bunny. Which is a bit of a let-down considering the title. Nonetheless, this is still super cute.

There is a giant time travelling rabbit who also happens to love chocolate and eggs with a devotion that is truly moving. Do you really need more info to read this book?

A unique interpretation of the Easter bunny. I can see how children that are entrenched in the characters associated with holidays would find these a great adventure, although the origin stories are definitely fantastical (if it were my child, I might introduce them to the true origins first, to be honest).

If you loved Dreamwork's Rise of the Guardians and would like to know more about the past lives of the other Guardians, then I would recommend you to read this as well as the other books in this series.

In this book, it started where [b:Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King|10886703|Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King (Guardians of Childhood Chapter Books)|William Joyce|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1355082194s/10886703.jpg|15802416] had left off. We weren't introduced right away to Bunnymund, or most well known today as The Easter Bunny because North, Ombric, Katherine and all of Big Root were still fazed by the last battle they had with Pitch and they were sure that it was not the end of it. Compared to the movie, the books may seem a little darker especially when our main protagonists are dealing with The Nightmare King himself but the battle itself were still child-friendly to read and to be told even out loud to kids who are firm believers in the Guardians.

I really like the steam punk feel of this book. I'm a sucker for anything steam punk-themed whether it's literature, fashion or art so this book was really an enjoyable read. The illustrations in this book also helps with you imagine them as characters moving inside your head while reading it.

FINAL RATING: 4.3

I wish I could give half stars because this one would rate 3.5

I found the first half to be extremely slow-paced and I was disappointed after the first Guardians book (Nicholas St North). Then, all of a sudden, just when I was contemplating putting the book aside, the second half took off and never stopped to take a breath again!

So in the end I WOULD recommend this book--along with the first in the series--as a wonderful story for children--and adults alike.

Like its predecessor it is full of wholesome, lovable, funny & engaging characters. The magic that intertwines the story is based in love and faith and friendship--which makes it an ideal read-aloud in elementary school.

I already wrote a rather lengthy review of book 1 in this series so I'll try to skip over that. I will repeat that this is a chapterbook series principally targeted at very young children, so don't expect too much if you're a "Rise of the Guardians" fan over the age of nine. If you'd like some decent film-related "Rise of the Guardians" backstory, go read Rufftoon's webcomics (just google Rufftoon, go to her deviantart gallery and look at her "Rise of the Guardians" folder). They're really wonderful.

If you like the Australian, boomerang-throwing, heavily tattooed, Easter-obsessed Bunny you saw in the film, then put the book down and go see him again. He's not around here and I doubt he'll show up any time soon. It's also heavily implied in the film that Bunny was actually born as a bunny and simply became magically endowed somewhere along the line, becoming the warrior he is throughout much of the film (or at least that's my interpretation). Bunnymund in the book is at once a darker and far more neutral character than that in the films. He's far wiser (perhaps THE wisest character in the universe) and powerful and is even more obsessed with eggs than Bunny is.

The series continues with its playful rewrites of history and 'science'. The Earth was apparently egg-shaped at one point and eggs are, for some reason, the most perfect shape in existence. There's no explanation for why a rabbit-like creature would obsess over eggs (ignoring the rather interesting actual history behind the connection between rabbits, eggs and Easter) other than that he simply does. He's also not really a rabbit. He's some sort of 'alien' or ancestor creature that's been on Earth since long before anything else.

If you're still waiting for Jack Frost to show up at some point, you'll have to wait a bit longer. If I recall correctly, he's hinted at near the end of book 4, but even then he still hasn't shown up. He's not Nightlight in disguise or a later transformation of Nightlight so far as I am aware. But he still won't show up here. The next book is Tooth's, though and we get to learn more about Pitch in book 4 so don't give up here if you've gotten this far! Just read through the rather silly novel and keep going.
