A BRILLIANT book in every way. Very similar style to Margaret Atwood but with Alderman's own genius shining clearly

Because this book tries to explore what an inverse reality of sexism and violence would look like, Alderman does not shy away from the reality of sexualized violence. I don't think her descriptions were gratuitous or sexualizing of sexual violence, but they were unflinching.

I hated it. First of all the whole premise and story is, I think, wrong already. The historical pieces supposedly found would say that this isn't a new thing. So then the whole patriarchy and all that should have already evolved and shaped differently. Also, the fact that this would result in reverse sexism is stupid, unrealistic and bad. Not to mention something I don't want to read about. 

The characters were boring and the worldbuilding was worse. This is trying so hard to make some sort of point and comparison to the real world that it just makes no fucking sense in the story. Choices that are made to show something supposedly meaningful but really it just makes no sense for the world and the characters. 

Conclusion; fuck this, fuck this world, reverse sexism would never happen and is stupid. I hated it.

This is a brilliant insight as to what would happen when women had a physical advantage over men. It is a reminder that when the scales of power are taken away, we are all human and are all equally capable of violence, hate, kindness, and love.

Everyone should read this book at least once. It’s a story everyone can relate to, as we all are affected by gender and it’s power dynamics. This book made me relook at human history itself, and wonder. All that being said, strongly recomend.
