the writing style and world building was so good, its such a shame that the concept went were it did. a lack of diverse characters and a very western white feminist outlook on the global issues presented throughout. overall, a disappointing read full of unrealistic female responses to obtaining power.

A BRILLIANT book in every way. Very similar style to Margaret Atwood but with Alderman's own genius shining clearly

Because this book tries to explore what an inverse reality of sexism and violence would look like, Alderman does not shy away from the reality of sexualized violence. I don't think her descriptions were gratuitous or sexualizing of sexual violence, but they were unflinching.

This is a brilliant insight as to what would happen when women had a physical advantage over men. It is a reminder that when the scales of power are taken away, we are all human and are all equally capable of violence, hate, kindness, and love.
