One of my all-time favourite books. Stories that linger and haunt you for years to come. Many great writers have been inspired by Angela Carter's feminist horror fairy tales, and understandably so. I first read this when I was 17 and studying my A-level in English Literature. I still return to this periodically and it's still one of my favourite books and I'm now 35. A classic for a reason.

The only short story collection I would die for! (I usually despise short stories; I love a good, detailed plot.)

Buddy read this and really enjoyed delving into the stories, allusions and metaphors. Angela Carter isn't my favorite author, but I can sometimes underestimate her and reading about these stories taught me a lot!
