Loved this book, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.

The story trucked along and was somewhere between medium and fast paced. There weren’t many lulls throughout the book which made it an easy read to get lost in.

Great demonic possession story.

After being pretty disappointed by The Final Girls Support Group, I’m happy to say this Hendrix novel was a winner. My Best Friend’s Exorcism is delightfully twisted, darkly funny, and surprisingly moving. It’s a nice blend of retro horror and coming-of-age flick that highlights Hendrix’s surprising talent for getting inside the heads of teenage girls.

The very intro and ending (the last chapter) weren’t done well. They don’t really tie anything together. They’re just sort of there. I felt like they weren’t even needed or should have been given more time and love in the writing room. Otherwise I loved this book. 98% of this book was really fun and enjoyable. Quirky and plays on some fun 80’s themes while still delivering the classic horror and exorcist vibes.
I really disliked that Grady wrote all the way to Abby’s death at 80. It just felt cheap and a really odd way to end a book like this.

I cried at the end of this book. I was mortified and gross out and thoroughly entertained, and I cried. This book has really intense and gross scenes, and everything else is dark and mysterious and packed with slasher-movie levels of fun. I adored it. Perfect for the spooky season, such a fun, gross book:) Also adore the cover I could stare at it all day.

So here’s the thing: this book did feel like a test run for his later The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. It had many of the same sort of themes and was in the same setting. However, I still really really liked it. I thought that it was  less scary that Southern Book Club… or The Final Girl Support Group but I honestly felt like the characters were fun and fresh. I would still definitely recommend, overall a great spooky read.
