This book was a disappointment for me, due to the lack of horror. I'm a pretty wimp of a person when it comes to horror things, and I thought it wasn't scary at all. If you like light (slightly silly) horror, this book might be for you though! It focuses more on the friendship dilemma and the MC's struggle with being the only one who knows what is happening with bestie.

The writing in this book is not my favourite, if I'm honest. It reminds me of American 80s/90s "teen" films. I also didn't like the characters in the book. Abby was supposedly a really nice person, but I didn't really get that vibe from her. Even though I felt bad for her home situation, I still thought she was annoying and ungrateful. Her mother was cool in that one scene though.

I admit. This is one of the times when I definitely picked up the book because of the gorgeous retro cover.

One of the best books of the year, and my first Hendrix novel! This one I’ll buy for sure. I listened to the audiobook and it was good!

Above all this book is about the power of friendship. A perfect balance of Halloween spooky, 80s nostalgia and satanic panic nonsense and a beautifully honest portrayal of coming of age and female friendships through your life.

It made me laugh, swell with pride and tore at my heartstrings. This book had everything. What a perfect spooky season read

DBNQ. This means the world to me. However, even if it tries to trick you into thinking it's light on the horror side of horror-comedy: there's one scene late in the book that is going to haunt me for the rest of my life and probably everyone else who grew up with the same urban legends and creepypastas as I did. The sexual assault warnings are also no joke.

Campy, dramatic, hilarious, thrilling horror novel about the power of friendship and demonic possession. The 80s theme is hilarious and well done.

Okay so my relationship with this book is complicated. There was a point when I was reading it where I thought I’d give it three stars, then it got really gross and I didn’t like that so I thought I’d give it two stars, but then the ending of the book really won me over, had me sobbing for half an hour and I decided to give four stars. I definitely am a cryer in general, but not every books ending can make me sob like that. I would say that if you are very squeamish then this probably isn’t the book for you, because it is about an exorcism and there is some pretty gruesome stuff that happens. That being said, I get disturbed really easily and it wasn’t necessarily too much for me to get through, and I think the ending really is worth it. I also want to add for anybody on the fence that even when I was getting grossed out by this book and was thinking about giving it two stars, I never wanted to not finish it. I was always excited to make sure that the characters would end up okay.
