There are many things that make this a great story, and although the book can easily be read as a stand alone, I confess that one of my favorite things about Forever and a Duke were the short but oh so lovely scenes with Quinn and his lovely wife (My one and Only Duke)!
Eleanora's tenacity, strength, and intelligence is to be respected. Life has not always treated her well but she has done and continues to do all she can to leave it behind her. She works hard to be respected for what she does and is brilliant at it. It is difficult not to be impressed by her and so it is understandable that Rex was taken by her.
Rex snuck up on me. I wasn't sure what to think about him to start. His relationship and blind trust on his family seemed a little misplaced to me and a tad strange. But as Eleanora and so me, the reader, gets to know him falling in love is inevitable. He is loyal, trustworthy, gentle, but also a fighter. I liked how he dealt with things in the end and appreciated him for it.
The only negative is that it got a little long at times. I don't particularly enjoy when things get repeated too often and we got to go over Rex's finances a few times too many. A third POV was added as well, although I understand why the author did it I can't say I enjoyed it.
But those are small details, they were in no way bad enough to make me want to stop reading.
This was another great historical romance by Grace Burrowes and it will undoubtedly make to the list of 2019 favorites.

"Forever and a Duke" was a charming and delightful story, just as Grace Burrowes's books always are. I adored the main characters, Ellie and Rex. Their banter was a lot of fun, and the way they looked after each other was incredibly sweet. For example, Ellie made Rex a soothing drink when she noticed that he had a headache, while he was always making sure that she ate and was warm enough. To me, small gestures like those are the signs of true love. Grand gestures can be lovely and certainly have their place (especially in romance novels!), but IMO, what matters most is how one shows love every day.
Ellie and Rex complemented each other very well in their various skills and personality traits, but I found it interesting that those interests and talents led to kind of a role reversal for the times in which they lived. Rex had the social acumen and knew how to navigate the ton, while Ellie had a head for business and was the perfect candidate to help him manage his estates and the bank. The two of them were a great team both personally and professionally.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I understand that Quinn's sister Althea will be featured in book #4 and I'm looking forward to getting to know more about her. I hope that his brother Stephen will get a book of his own at some point, too. Stephen has been through so much in his life, and I would love to see him finally find the perfect partner.

Mrs. Eleanora Hatfield is acknowledged to be a whip-smart woman, one who can help to clean the murkiest of bank books. She is the one that her employer asks to help Wrexham, the Duke of Elsmore when he suspects that something naughty is going on at his family's bank.
Eleanora has not had an easy life and her two cousins keep trying to drag her down (whether on purpose or not, they keep involving her in their schemes.) She is reluctant to believe that the attraction growing between her and Wrexham can be anything more than a short-term affair, especially when she is going to have to be the one to tell the Duke what is really going on at his bank.
Wrexham may seem to be a rather lazy duke but his perfect clothing belies a sharp mind and he's not ready to let Eleanora go.
A fine story but I didn't really connect to either of the main characters so it didn't keep my interest for long periods of time. An interesting story though.

Last year I discovered Grace Burrowes and I’ve fallen pretty hard for her unconventional heroes and heroines, the way her books are both somehow sedate and stirring, and her beautiful writing style—cuz make no mistake, it’s a real style.

Reading her books gives me similar feelings to watching the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice: admiration mixed with quiet joy.

FOREVER AND A DUKE features the formidable bank auditor Eleanora Hatfield and the “charming” Wrexham, duke of Elsmore. Suspecting that there’s something wrong with his finances, Rex temporarily hires Eleanora and the sparks fly over ledgers and bowls of soup.
.
.
But of course there are significant barriers between them, in addition to Eleanora’s own obstinate nature.
.
.
I love how feminist Burrowes books are. Eleanora refuses to be cowed and she’s forged her own respectable path which she defends from the less scrupulous members of her family. She’s brilliant and self-assured and she wields words like they’re swords. Let me just tell you, the cutting remarks in this book are truly special.
.
.
And Rex is dashing but not without substance, and that becomes increasingly apparent with each chapter. His devotion, his courage in chasing a HEA...well, it’s lovely.
.
.
This book isn’t super steamy—there’s some on page build-up then it goes off page—but there’s still plenty of heat for anyone who savors witty banter and opposites-attract and a sigh-inducing closing chapter.

Cute enough, though Eleanora's drama got to be a bit much for me personally.
I did enjoy Elsmore's descriptions of thing dukes and other nobles got away with, and how he could marry a commoner. He was a good counter to all Eleanora's angst.

This book might be my favorite from the series so far. I really enjoyed Ellie and Rex, and felt like they were s good match. There was lots of good banter, especially since Ellie was the logical brainy person and Rex was the love struck one. Overall a cute read and glad to see some new characters outside the first few books.
