I enjoyed this book, but I must admit not as much as the first one. It seemed much slower to me and I’m hoping the third one picks up a bit more. I think what I liked most about this book was the arrival of prince Nikolai/Sturmhond. When he revealed himself as a prince I was stunned, that was something I did not at all expect! I fell in love with him I just say, but I also loved the Sturmhond side of him. He could do so many different things and I was amazed by how much he loved his country. I hated him brother however, honestly I was glad he died in the end of this book. He wouldn’t be a problem now. Toyla and Tamar were two of my new favorites as well. They were absolutely an amazing addition to the team and surprised me at every turn. They seemed to know a little about everything and I’m excited to see more of them in the next book. I’m still convinced the apparent is crazy with all his saint talk, but he helped them in the end so he was okay in my book at least for now. I really missed genya in this book and although I know she’s been through hell im glad she’s back with Alina. Mal irritated me in this book. He seemed to whine about everything although he should just be thankful to be apart of something greater. I will not be happy in Alina ends up with him. I honestly think they’re better off as friends. I would love her with Nikolai but I guess I will wait and see. Alina grew so much in this book to me. She accepted who she was and who she never would be again. She embraced that she could become more and wanted more for herself. I was really proud of her, she did not cower. The ending was a bit exciting and I hope obviously her power will come back but I’m curious to see what happened to the darkling as well. I’m excited to read the third book. I would recommend this book as a bridge between the first and third. It wasn’t the most exciting to me beyond the new characters I fell head over heels in love with.

I liked this one more than the first and felt a deeper love for the characters....except Mal.....
