No thoughts other than: I am a sucker for Mariana Zapata slow burn.
I’m genuinely convinced Mariana zapata could not write a bad book. This book made me giggle and kick my feet and I’m not sure there was a point in this book where I was bored. No notes

I usually love MZs book, but every time Vanessa called Aiden ‘big guy’ I died a bit inside
And please for the love of god stop mentioning his size 13 feet
AND I was completely lost with the ugly colours she kept dying her hair
Not my fav, maybe even a bit hyped up for what it was
But MZ knows how to write a great slow burn with amazing character development (end had me crying)

As a Canadian, it must be said that I don’t think Mariana Zapata has ever met a Canadian
With that out of the way, this is my third Zapata book and while the other two rank higher in my mind, no one is able to write a rom com that has you committed to each and every page quite like her. Aiden took me a while to warm up to but once we got to see more of him and Vanessa connecting, I got it. I got why she dug him. Though I can’t say that if Aiden existed in real life that I would still vibe with him… hm. And did I miss it or what happened to Vanessa’s loans??
This didn’t get me from the start like Zapata books usually do, that came like 15% in for me this time, but I still had a really good time with it! She is the queen of slow burn, and I love a romance that I can fall in love with alongside of the characters (but then again, I’ve never been someone who has been swayed by the “love at first sight” trope). This one just wasn’t my favourite… it could be somewhat boring Aiden’s fault or it could be that I care 0% about football or it could be the painful ways in which the reader is reminded that Aiden is Canadian (that’s not how “eh” is used, cmon), but that’s okay!! Still made me wanna kick my feet at times (a phrase I’ve used in all 3 Zapata reviews I’ve written so far, I think) so all is forgiven (and it was still very good, in my opinion)! How many brackets can I use in one sentence!!
Anyway, I’m loving reading these thick, slow burning, heart snatching contemporary romances and my ranking of Zapata men is currently Rhodes>Ivan>>>>>Aiden (subject to change)
Some of the content of this book is immensely heavier than that of the others that I’ve read by this author. TRIGGER WARNING: abuse (domestic, child, neglect, familial), sexual harassment, substance use mentions, mentions of CPS and foster care
4/5
