I started reading this book without any expectations and I didn't really think I would like it much. But this book really surprised me and I liked it way more than I thought I would.
This book handles some hard topics in a very good way and I think it was very beautifully written. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of this book also.
Ozzie, the main character, was very selfish and that kind of bugged me sometimes, but I also think he was very funny at times. I really liked Lua and I think Calvin was so adorable and cute oh my god 😻
I'm still kind of debating whether I liked the ending or not and if I really got it but besides that this book really surprised me and I'm very glad I read it.

Points I will talk about when I make time to properly review this book when my brain is more coherent.
-My love for Dustin and the fact that he's ace.
-The fact that Ozzie was a selfish jerk, but I loved him because I understood where his selfishness comes from
-How the Shaun David Hutchinson formula for books works for me
-How it annoyed me that this book centered so much on love interests even though the universe was shrinking and if that were happening you shouldnt be so consumed only with love interests. Like. For example. You should be properly freaking out about losing your friends and family.
-How all the diversity in this book is so well handled and made to see normal
-The fact that I liked the ending even tho it picked the easy way out
-My annoyance at basically being persuaded into adopting Calvin as my son, only for him and Ozzie to part ways in the end bc they hadnt really been together
-The fact that I find the message of this book both annoying and necessary to complete the Shaun David Hutchinson formula

Tw: self-harm, rape
Okay so I was genuinely prepared to give this five stars, but then the ending happened? Like the last 50 pages? And I'm so incredibly confused right now and I think I need to finally come to the realization that no matter how many of his books I read, I will never be the type of person to enjoy Shaun David Hutchinson. The mental health discussions, the queer rep, and the romance is always good and on point; the writing is fantastic. I just...I can't do the weird sci-fi stuff. And don't get me wrong!! I love sci-fi, but I don't love it when it's blended with contemporaries to the point that it doesn't make complete sense nor is it fully explained. I dunno, just me.

This was a captivating book along the lines of We Are The Ants. Highly recommended. Full review to come soon.
Unlike We are the Ants, this book did not fully convince me. In fact, some of the events and character (a lot of repetitive elements) in the book rather annoyed me. It still is a good book and has some interesting anecdotes but it could not hold up to my expectations.
This book was absolutely amazing. I loved it to death. The beginning was slightly slow, so I found myself not really reading it, since my favorite book last year was We Are the Ants, I didn't want to not like this one. However, once I picked it up again, I didn't want to put it down. This was so amazing and there were so many plot twists that kept me wanting more. Plus, the characters felt so real. I could see a little bit of myself in each and everyone of them. This was so well written and such a beautiful story, everyone should read this book.
May 1 2019- 5 stars that i hate to give
why the fuck, how the fuck, and what the fuck was this book? i’m so mad at it. whoever decided life wasn’t fair deserves to burn in hell.

so, i was super excited to read this book. i had heard good things from We Are The Ants (which i have not read) and i was expecting good things from this one. overall, it was good! i loved the idea of the universe shrinking. the book has such a diverse cast and that immediately made me like it even more. Shaun David Hutchinson has a unique writing style that can easily captivate the readers and the story of At The Edge of the Universe was told beautifully. it touched on topics that aren't usually talked about and the author wrote about them well.
one thing i did not entirely like was that in the beginning it was a bit slow building. i typically like books that start off a bit fast paced that keeps going but based on how the story was told, the slow building of the plot was what really put the book together.
i would definitely recommend reading this book!

Not really attention grabbing enough.
I hated the first few pages of this book. But the plot grabbed me, so I came back to it. In the end, the twist wasn't twisty enough and it didn't pack the emotional punch I was expecting. But I loved the overall concept.
