📖: Erin and Will are a normal couple going through a rough patch so they decide to start marriage counseling. Their therapist is Maggie Day. As Maggie tries to get the couple to open up, Erin mentions something from her past that intrigues Maggie. Now Maggie is no longer helping the couple, but digging for her own truth thru Erin.
💭: A decent, entertaining psychological thriller with the marriage counseling trope, which I usually enjoy. It was suspenseful with multiple twists in the second half of the book. Chapters are told by the multiple characters (past and present) - Erin, Maggie, Will, detectives, set in Dorset, England.  I absolutely despised the mother-in-law!! Put that lady in her place. Nothing super memorable about this one though and I never got into it so I took longer than usual to read.
✍️: marriage counseling, trauma, lies, death, hit and run

This could be a 0 star from me. I just can't with this book. I felt like it could have been good based on the premise but when it all came together I just found it BS. I hated the explanations and can never get behind the way the story came together. For a book published in 2023 - it's ridiculous. We need to stop with that. In terms of the rest of the book, I found the pacing all over the place, and I hated the repeating of things multiple times, I could have used a black marker every page to cut out things we already knew all about. The re-telling of scenes with each persons point of view was aggravating - if you haven't written your characters well enough for me to know how they would have acted... that's a problem. Okay. I'll stop. If this had not been a library book I would have burned it.

50% of the book before we get to the actual instigating conversation between patient and therapist. The remainder 50% takes off and has near constant twists and unveilings, some more predictable than others. Flawed characters that are painfully infuriating.

FANTASTIC!!! Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

What an emotional and suspenseful psychological thriller that kept me guessing to the very end. This is my first read by Heidi Perks and it did not disappoint! The suspense, drama, tension, pacing, secrets, lies, dual perspectives, unique plot and unexpected twists and turns makes this a wild ride! I was completely engrossed from the beginning and could not stop reading. I absolutely loved this book so much!!! 💚💚💚💚

Erin and Will decide to get help from a marriage therapist when their perfect marriage starts to fall apart. As Maggie, the therapist, tries to help them open up and mend their relationship she becomes disturbed when Erin mentions something connected to Maggie's past. Now she is obsessed with uncovering her own truth and no longer trying to fix the couple's marriage. Fast forward six months later, Erin is involved in a hit and run accident and is in critical condition. Was it a horrible accident or did someone purposefully hurt her? I mean if it was an accident then someone close to Erin must be the culprit, right?

If your looking for a entertaining and gripping psychological thriller then this is the book for you! I cannot wait to read more books by this author and I highly recommend!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
