Im not gonna give this a rating cause I don’t know how many times I’ve read twilight and I can’t rate it well since I know in my critic heart that they are objectively not the best but I do love em. It is however the first time listening to it and I highly recommend listening to this version!

I first read this book in 2007, and I. Was. Obsessed. I waited with bated breath for Breaking Dawn to come out, about died of excitement when they announced the movie franchise, went to every midnight premiere, and was disappointed with most of the installments. I will say that with all the hype surrounding it, I had begun to lose interest in the series as a whole. It seemed like everyone believed it was some sort of literary classic, and I knew that it wasn't. And everywhere you look, there are spinoffs and rip off of this very series (I'm looking at you, Fifty Shades of Grey). So naturally, I felt disillusioned with the series. I began to feel embarrassed to admit that I enjoyed reading the books and was a fan from the beginning. Needless to say, it's interesting that something prompted me to read this book again eight years later. But here I sit, in October 2015, having finished the first installment for the second time, and the book was just as magical to me the second time as it was the first time I read it.

Sure, there are some moments and aspects of their relationship that are impractical, and we don't want our daughters to emulate Bella's habit to fall madly in love and proceed to allow her first relationship to consume her life. But haven't we all been there? It's the beauty of a first love, and I think it makes Bella's 17-year-old, inexperienced character more realistic. Plus, the novel is a fantasy anyway.

I would read another installment in this series (beyond Breaking Dawn), and I wish Stephenie Meyer would write more stories set in the Twilight universe.

I feel as if I can't give this series an honest review anymore. It is so tied up in its fanbase that I feel people are even starting to make assumptions on the character of the readers based upon this book. I realize that the choices we make in books reflects our personalities, but Twilight has been taken to extremes. I don't even bring it out in public anymore, prefering to read it with guilty glances over my shoulder in the confinement of my living room.

I know of girls who shun peers because they haven't read it, pointlessly thinking of them as rebels. What sort of petty, pathetic excuse is that to completely disregard someone? Can anyone blame me for not wanting to be connected with these alarming trends?

Am I being over-sensitive, or do I have a legetimate point?

Then there's how it's been made into an entire franchise. The Twilight conversation hearts, Twilight dark chocolate, Twilight bracelets, the movies (rant coming on that shortly), the director's book on inside gossip (the vile stuff), the Twilight comic book... the list goes on. Don't get me wrong -- in an age where people are predicting the death of the good ole' fashioned book, throwing scary statistics around about how little the youth is reading, I am glad to see this show of passion. My complaint that it isn't about the joy of reading anymore, or a celebration of the story. It's what will make the most money, what will drive the cult to a frenzy, establishing a demand for more pointless paraphanalia.

I suppose I shouldn't be a salesperson.

This ties into my thoughts of movies made from books. I cherish the experience of reading. The way each person makes it their own, stretching their imaginations to encompass the ideas of an author, the passing down of knowledge and ideas even after an author has died... To curl up with a book and escape from the world... This is the essence of the magic literature holds for me. Movies made from books seem like standardizing our imaginations. Why?

Money.

See all I have written without once talking about the writing itself?

I find that all of Stephenie Meyer's writing has an oddly addictive quality about it, not just for me but for the seemingly millions of her fans. Her characters are so alive and real. I'm not much of a vampire enthusiast or a gothic girl, or even a romance buff. But I really enjoyed this book.
