This book was heavy. It makes you think the whole way through. I finished it in a day because I couldn’t put it down, but it wasn’t an easy read emotionally. And that ending? Huge twist that left me sitting there just processing. It’s one of those stories that sticks with you after, even if you’re not sure how to rate it right away.

idek this book just made me sad

The emotions this book took me through, whew!

I can't even get into why I hated this right now. The twist was stupid. How the adults acted was stupid. Treating Claudia like that was stupid. On the last point, I'm talking about the twist that takes place and why her parents did what they did. IYKYK. This made no sense and was just frustrating. I also disliked the timelines???? It literally made everything significantly more confusing than it needed to be.

It also highlighted everything that genuinely pisses me off about my community. This girl, obviously traumatized and going through a lot (post-twist) and her parents are still reprimanding her on Black Respectability Politics.... Give me a break. I hate that shit with our people so bad. She's clearly distressed over her missing friend and you're threatening her because she gives you a little attitude.. She's a grieving young girl. Goddamn.

It's really a 3.5. I feel the addition of her forgetting wasn't necessary but overall the story is very good.

I wish I had read the book instead of the audiobook. I didn’t love the narrator, but the story itself was very good. Heartbreaking. I don’t read a lot of YA but still very much enjoyed the story.

This book has a really good storyline, but the jumping between timelines makes it really confusing and a hard read. The end is very good but doesn’t make up for the fact that the middle is confusing and that it could’ve been shorter.
