I enjoyed Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick. It’s the second in the Asbury High series, but I didn’t need to read the first to understand what was going on.

The characters were delightful, even though I don’t see them as the Scooby Gang, like a lot of people have described them (I think you need a dog for that). I loved how the characters were friends and supported each other. And I loved Carley’s parents. They weren’t stereotypical, though there were a bit absent. I wasn’t fond of Neal’s dad or his never seen mother, but the AI had a cruddy attitude enough for her.

The mystery was interesting. People are falling over with food poisoining during the summer, all while a suspicious new pancake house is opened next to the gang’s favorite hangout. The author dropped clues throughout the book that figuring out the culprit was easy enough, but I’m a lot older than the target audience.

Again, I’m not normally a YA reader, but this book was so engaging that I will go back to read the rest of the series and recommending it to the teenagers I know. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting an enjoyable read that reminds you of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys.

Their first year of high school is finally complete, and the Asbury foursome are looking forward to a summer of relaxation and hanging at the beach, including dining at their favorite pancake and taco establishment.

But when a new pancake house and a series of illnesses threaten to close down their favorite restaurant, their relaxing summer is quickly replaced with their own investigation. Will they be able to figure out the truth before an icon of their small town is gone forever?

Maddie, Cornelious, Carly, and Pilot are at it again in Kelly Brady Channick’s Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison, the second book in The Asbury High Series. Clear of any profanity, religious content, or sexual references, this mystery is meant for readers of all ages.

Unfortunately, though, the grammatical errors along with several spelling mistakes are a little distracting. This caused one to lose complete immersion in the plotline resulting in 4 out of 5 stars.

An amusing and engaging story, Kelly Brady Channick’s Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison, is a great addition to the Asbury High Series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick is another fantastic version of a Scooby-Doo book that I love.

Can the gang figure out why Brady's customers' are getting food poisoning?

The gang

The gang is back again to solve another mystery. Okay, okay with help from Cornelious's cousin but not by much. They are still pretty much the same as they were in the first book but just without the added stress of their first year in high school. The only exception is that two of them are dating and that Maddie is getting hit on by Dane, Cornelious's cousin, and Neal isn't too happy about that. I have to say that I love seeing how the whole thing unfolds in this book. Especially with the dynamic between these four friends and how well they know each other.

The Mystery

Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison CRThe mystery for this one happens to be, why would anyone want to bring down Brady's? The gang's favorite hang out spot. Well, that answer is a significant spoiler, so you will have to read the book to find out. Besides that, it is all about trying to figure out what type of food poisoning and the reasoning behind it. It's just a very intricate mystery, and I love the little riddle about a treasure that has been buried since Asbury's founding days. That was cute and how that might take a spin that I wasn't excepting. Don't fall for the red herrings in this one.
Five Stars

Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick is tremendous, and I can't wait to get around to reading the next book eventually. I love this group of kids and how they are all very different, but they work great as friends. Including now in high school, and so many of them doing extracurricular activities away from their core group of friends. Despite that, they still care about each other and try to be there for one another. My rating is five stars, and I'm recommending to anyone that enjoys some teenage detectives solving mysteries.

This is the second book in the Asbury High series and picks up right after the first one let's off. Once again our group of friends find themselves meddling in the goings on around town, this time to solve a mystery involving their favorite hang out spot, Brady's. The writing in this book is a little better than the first, and as such it was a more enjoyable read. I still think these are better suited for midgrade though.
