This historical fantasy is from one of my favorite authors. The setting is the mid 1800's during the California gold rush and western expansion. It is more historical fiction than fantasy, but there is a little "magic" in throughout.
Its beeing so long since ive love a book this much! I am now dying to read the next installment
Reread December 2021… 4.5 stars!!
I reread this because I didn’t remember anything about it and I was trying to figure out if it’s a series I want to continue with. I’m so glad I reread this because it was so so fun! I really loved the unique characters and this pioneer journey we go on. This is a time in history that I remember really enjoying when I learned about it in school. It’s super fascinating and this supernatural twist we get in this book with a main character who can sense gold in the middle of the gold rush!!! So great! I’ll definitely be finishing this series.

I’m so happy I finally finished this because it was such a delight to read! I adored the setting and I found it very realistic. Leah has got to be one of my favourite book characters of all time, and Mrs.Joyner really grew on me as well.

Probably 4.5. This story was incredible, and Leah Westfall is mah gurl. Review to come!
Wow. Just wow. I once saw a documentary about people in America moving in big companies to cities and states. And I felt horrified by all the tales, like there was one with cannibalism. But those stories were gripping, nay thrilling, somehow you wanted to know more.
I also remember being scared.
This book made me feel the EXACT same way. My chest and stomach ACTUALLY hurt, my stomach kept on churning and my heart kept on aching for everyone that died along the way, there's no cannibalism in this book, luckily.
I don't understand how anyone can write such a marvelous tale of agony, survival, desperation, frenzy and well.. hope.
This book is fantastic. if you like the gold rush, America in it's (way) younger years and adventure, I recommend it to you.
Heck, this was one helluvan emotional rollercoaster. I'm not sure if any book will hold the same weary and dreading essence as Walk on Earth a Stranger.
This is the first book by Rae Carson I've ever read, but after reading this, I'm psyched to read her other books and, of course, Like a River Glorious!!

Decided to give this book another try, it was fine for a first book- I'll wait to fully judge if I make it through the series!

I absolutely freaking loved this book. It was so different and refreshing and written so well. I loved the characters, and the storyline, and just everything about it. I listened to the audiobook, which I think really added to the realness of the story. I felt like I was really there along with the characters and going through what they were going through. I think the author did a really good job with this story and making it seem realistic, and I think she did her research well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a YA that's not your typical YA at all. The romance was very, very subtle, which fit the time period for me. I definitely cannot wait to read the next book and find out what happens!
