FYI this is just going to be me shortly complain about all the things i hated with this book.

The mc was... fine. The li was a cop (ugh). The parents (both the mc:s and the li:s) where weird af. And stupid. But that goes for pretty much all the adults in this book. The villian was weakly made.
Also the narrator for the audiobook has the same shitty oldman voice for all the dudes in the book - which means that not only is it hard to remember which one is wich, it also make it sound like the 18yrs old li is in his 50ies or something. Ugh.

Another amazing sci-fi fantasy from Maria V. Synder. I adored her take on space and aliens. She had me feeling like I was in Interstellar.

I really adored our cast of main characters. Niall isn’t the bad boy that you find hot. I love how we had to grow to love him. I also loved Beau and hope we see so much more of him in the second book. His playfulness just gets to me. Then with our protagonist Lyra, to be honest I did not connect with her right away but I did love how she grows and really starts to become brave and more ambitious.

The beginning started off slow for me. It took me a while to get into the book and the time aspect was a little hard to grasp. Plus, Lyra sounded so young that it was hard for me personally to connect to her until about half way through. That could also be because this is when she starts to really believe in herself.

Overall I really loved the concept however there are SO many unanswered questions about the world and what is happening on Yulin. I’m hoping in the second installment a lot of these get answered! Cannot wait to see what the next book holds.

Loved this!
adventurous mysterious

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator just did not have the right voice for the MC, or for most of the characters. Her intonation and general tone just didn't suit this book at all from what I remember.

This book sounds like its going to be interesting but nothing really happens in the first 100 pages for me to want to continue on. The cover is beautiful and i was really hoping to find a new sci-fi series for me to love but this isn't it.

Actual rating 3.5

Navigating the Stars started off, in my opinion, a little weak. For starters, it's VERY young, and the MC is very much an angsty teen. While this is clearly what Snyder was going for, it just didn't quite do it for me. However, once we were aboard the star ship everything finally started coming together. It never really felt like anything special, but it sure got intriguing, and was a super enjoyable read. So, here go my loves and hates!

Loves:
- Love, love, LOVED the time dilation in the interstellar travel!
- The mystery behind the terracotta warriors
- The looters
- The parental involvement
- THAT ENDING!!!
Spoiler I totally didn't see the whole Jarran thing coming! I actually thought someone had managed to screw the time dilation, and Lyra was coming back from the future to mess with stuff

Hates:
- Again SUPER young!
- The characters were fairly flat and two dimensional
- The segue's into new scenes were really rather rubbish. It felt super choppy, and I struggled to bring it all together at times.
- The romance. Ugh. I wanted to like it, but it just got too unrealistic too quickly.
- How unbelievably talented Lyra is at everything she tries her hand at. My eyes were rolling so hard!
- There was little to no explanation of what the Q net actually is. Which leads on to my next point..
-
Spoiler What was with Jarran being so 'deep' in the Q net? What actualy is the Q net? I assume it's the Quantum internet, but it is just so poorly explained.

- And lastly, the editing. There were an insane number of typos, though I'm chalking this up to it being an ARC. I'm also chalking up the poor segue's up to it being an ARC, as well as the at times stilted prose. (Please, oh PLEASE let this be just because it was an ARC! I swear Snyder's other work was a heck of a lot better written than this!'

Recommend: Yes, but do NOT go in expecting Snyder's other work. It is so, SO different. Also, go in with lower expectations. And if you happen to be a tween/teen/YA, it will probably be more up your alley.
Age: 12+There is meant to be crossover for adults, but it really is a teen book.
Warnings: Some death and violence, and some kissing.

Interesting but I kind of lost my motivation. The combined history/archaeology/space travel though was very enjoyable.
