This is my favourite of Maria's books, and I have read most of them! The premise is fantastic and the plot is fun and surprising. I loved the characters the most though, and I can't wait for book 2!

DAMN it took forever to get to the plot. Ppl just kept talking on and on about very straightforward things. Plot was nice when it was going on though.

I am SO happy that Maria is still writing books! Not that I thought she was going to stop, but honestly, it's so hard to top my favorite series, Poison Study, by her. Well, she didn't top it (seriously, the Study series is one of the best I have ever read and it will ALWAYS be the best) but it was still really good! I was a little nervous about it, mostly because I'm starting to lean away from YA novels, but I still really enjoyed the book.
I will say that the ellipses and the "er" and others were getting a bit annoying, but in light of the characters and knowing her writing style I was able to let it go. I allowed myself to become the character which helped with this style of writing. I read another review and it was mentioned that the writing felt like a journal or diary entry but it was never shown to be that - I agree that it felt that way but I didn't mind it, I liked it, actually.
Space themed novels were never my favorite. I always shied away from them because I had difficulty imagining space and things flying around in it and such. I mean, I've never been to space, so there's that. Anyway, Maria, like other authors I've read, did an amazing job describing each bit of space, and the ships, and the timeline, that I wasn't ever battling a headache.
I will say that this did have a Study series (and the others that go along with it) feel. I couldn't help but compare and see characters like Valek, Ari, and Janco in some of the characters. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it would be nice to be introduced to different types of characters.
I very much look forward to her others in this series!

Language: Less then Mild - I don't recall langauge ever being prominate in any of Maria's books, so when one of her characters said "fuck" I was so surprised! (But I didn't mind!)
Explicitness: None. Some handsy moments and thoughts about wanting more, but nothing gasp-worthy.

This book reminded me so much of Zenon Girl of the 21st Century so much and I was all for it. I loved the humor and the world and really just everything about it.
Parts of it were predictable but I enjoyed getting there.

I'm not usually a fan of space stories, but checked this out from the library on a whim. The writing and plot is engaging, and I actually liked the main character for the whole book - which usually isn't the case in ya novels for me.
It's now 5 am and I already checked out book 2. Which I'll start after a nap...

This book took me waaaaaay to long to read! I wasn't motivated and I was in such a bad slump. This book was actually good (I had low expectations after not liking some of her other books) and the book itself would be a 4 star read but it just didn't keep me invested.
The concept of the worming was quite confusing and needed to be explained a bit more and there was too many places to keep track of. I loved the idea of Terracotta Warriors being in space and made my aliens and all the sci-fi plots were really cool but I only think I'll stick to reading this first book because I have so many other things to read.
