I enjoyed the Chinese culture interwoven with the plot and the whole book had an interesting concept but it wasn't really my cup of tea.

So last night, I stayed up to 2am to finish this book and can't believe I didn't try to read it sooner! The pacing and plot were so compelling that I finished this book in 3 days, staying up late each time because I couldn't find a natural break where I wanted to stop reading. Luckily, book two is coming out in a couple of weeks! Which gives all of you time to find time to read this one so you're ready for Chasing the Shadows.

Quick aside, I love how perfect the titles are for these two books!

Basically if you love historical mysteries, space adventures, mischief, and hate-to-love relationships, then I only have one question for you: why haven't you read this book yet?!

Bonus points: if you enjoyed The Illuminae Files or Aurora Rising, then you should definitely put this one to the top of your TBR!

tried to enjoy it, but i just dont think any of this was enjoyable for me. didn't like the main character, space archaeology isn't my thing, etc

⁣ I loved that Lyra was outspoken, insanely intelligent and has a beautiful relationship with her parents ( dunno this was just really refreshing for a 17 year old protagonist). This book was in first person and Lyra talked directly to the reader, something that I sometimes don’t overly enjoy but in this case found very entertaining. The book is centred on Lyra and her parents hunting down Terracotta warriors on planets across the universe. I do love Chinese history so I’m really excited to see where this aspect of the plot takes us in book two and three, I want more terracotta warriors! Of course we have a love interest and it’s funny/ interesting to watch that unfold. The book was all action forward the end and didn’t disappoint. I’m really excited to read book two this month, just in time for book three to be realised in early December! ⁣⁣

Welcome to the galaxy. Lyra, a rebellious teenage hacker, has spent her life shadowing her parents as they chase theories and facts throughout the universe. Their research? Discovering clues about the mysterious terracotta armies found on multiple planets. Navigating the Stars is an unforgettable story wound tight with mystery, discovery, space travel and a tantalising, teenaged, enemies to lovers relationship. Fans of Illuminae and Aurora Rising will devour this book.

Navigating the Stars features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ Young Adult
○ Science Fiction
○ Enemies to lovers
○ Interstellar travel
○ Terracotta army
○ Hacking
○ Advanced technology

My overall rating for Navigating the Stars is…

5 Stars!

I am ready to explore the universe! Wow! This book offers incredible possibilities and a unique, futuristic galaxy; I could not put this book down! Snyder has certainly outdone herself with this book, which took her out of her comfort zone of fantasy and deep into the infinity of space. Young or old, familiar and stranger to science fiction; I recommend this book to anyone interested in a cosmic chance!

Trigger warnings: violence, death of a friend.

So it's probably no secret by now that archaeology in space ticks basically all of my boxes. And in the case of [b:Unearthed|25446297|Unearthed (Unearthed, #1)|Amie Kaufman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1495338043s/25446297.jpg|45210048], I was hooked from page 1 and loved every second of it. The premise of this - terracotta warriors are found on planets all over the galaxy - was SO GREAT but unfortunately this just...didn't work for me.

It took a long ass time to get going, and there was a lot of focus on how space travel worked and how time passed during space travel. And honestly? I didn't give a shit. Does Star Wars dedicate time to telling us about how the Millennium Falcon can travel at light speed? Nope. It just does. Same goes with Doctor Who. It's just wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Sci-fi doesn't NEED explanations of how things work. Just tell the audience it works and most of them will go along with it.

This felt bogged down by the scientific details and that got in the way of me caring about the characters. It also made the story feel incredibly slow. Will I read the next book in the series? I mean, probably. But on the whole, this was just sort of...meh. And that makes me sad because I was so very much hoping I'd love it.
