This book is a good example of why I don't give star ratings. It's very well-written and I think the author had a really good idea. It just wasn't the book for me! I've never really been into Arthurian legends. I thought maybe a lesbian cross-dressing knight of the round table would be what finally won me over, but it did not.

If you ARE a fan of King Arthur and the stories about him, you'll probably enjoy this reimagining of Percival. The author has clearly done a lot of research, and I found her notes at the end about the roots of these stories very fascinating. I especially appreciated the diversity she incorporated into her cast of characters, too.

Spear is novella length and has a few beautiful illustrations that pair well with the legendary story. There are no chapters, but there are breaks in the story that provide a good stopping point if you can't read it in one sitting.
