Firstly I don't play video games so I was a bit leery thinking I might not relate to this book. What I found was a very engrossing story. The story focused a lot on the pop culture of the 1980s which I found very entertaining. It made me want to rewatch some of the 80s classic movies. There is a heavy focus on video games. I didn't play video games of the 80s but the descriptions covered enough so I understood the premise of the game.
The story takes place around 2044. The world has been in decay for years so many people escape into a video game called the Oasis. The creator of the Oasis has recently died and his fortune will go to the first person who can find the Easter egg in the game.
The story keep me very much invested in the book. Wade the main character and his gaming friends were all believable characters. The adults for the most part were one dimensional which didn't seem to lesson the story.
Overall this book was a pleasant surprise and I can recommend this to readers who enjoy YA and adult fiction.

If Willy Wonka and World of War Craft had a baby during the 80's, it would be this book. Really fun and interesting, especially if you grew up in the 80's during the rise of video games or if you love MMORPG's. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I would have enjoyed it more if I understood the more of the 80's gaming references.

Insanely good book! It was impossible to put down. It was fun for nostalgia sake but also just a good gripping story that had me hooked until the end.

I loved the world this book created. I often found myself deeply immersed. The 80’s references get a little old, but it’s otherwise a great read.

I enjoyed this book but it took me awhile to finish. it's very long and I picked it up and put it down a few times. I enjoyed all the 80s pop culture references and the plot of the story. I can see why it's being made into a movie.
