This play was fun and reading it after watching it preformed allowed me to understand the themes of the play a lot better. It was my first Shakespeare read and I’m glad I got to enjoy the fantasy aspect of this before delving into the tragedy that Macbeth is.

What stuck out to me was how autonomy was viewed in Shakespearean time, I remember being confused that is is meant to be a happy ending yet Demetrius is still under the love spell… is his own personal happiness also important? But at the time of this play it would not have been considered.

I laughed reading this, which surprised me. I didn’t think I would understand the language and that would effect my ability to enjoy the comedy of it, BUT I found the characters so polarising that I couldn’t help but chuckle.
