Gave a few days to think on the book before writing here. It’s a classic for sure and set a lot of standards for literature with this type of troupe. The story itself is intriguing and very fun to follow but the way in which it is written can feel pretty clunky. Lots of men going “and I said I said good sir I said”. Also as someone who likes paragraph breaks to be able to stop reading if need be, the giant run on paragraphs in this book can become time consuming. Technically a 3.75/5 for me.

I put that this book can be considered slow paced just due to the way Stevenson writes. Not a bad style at all but just something to keep in mind.

One of my all-time favorites. Read it for the first time in eighth grade English and immediately turned my psyche inside-out, creating my own division of self, and sharing a part of my mind with Robert Louis Stevenson across the centuries. Reread it this year and found I loved it just as much.

Personal takeaways:We all have good and bad thoughts, but ultimately we are a culmination of our actions. These actions can also change the way we think. The more we lean towards negativity this feeds into itself. Try to be more positive and do positive things and this will lead to positive thoughts. This tends to be the case with music as well. If you listed to sad music it makes you sad.

In the book the two sides of the coin are represented in numerous ways. The first is the ugly small appearance of Hyde representing evil and the tall handsome appearance of Dr Jekyll representing good. In his public life he is shown to be a good caring person, but in his private life in his laboratory and behind he is something different. Maybe this is akin to us never knowing what someone is truly like and we only know our own true intentions.
