Great start to a new series...I'm very excited to get into the others. Jack Shepard (LOL Lost alert!) and his hard-boiled '40s slang makes me laugh out loud.

This cozy mystery started out really slow for me. After a while, I began to enjoy the premise of the ghost in the bookstore. I would definitely read her again, but am rather surprised at how different her style is in this series as compared to her other series (Coffee House). Right now, I'm enjoying the Coffee House series more than this one which was rather surprising.

I really enjoyed this book.. By the second chapter I was hooked. I couple relate to Pen. She was a well written character who was human. She always questioned herself and wrestled with the loss of her parents and and brother.. Jack cracked me up.. I could picture him restless pulling pranks on unsuspecting customers at the book store. I can't wait to read the second one.. It should be delivered tomorrow. If you are a fan of mystery, quick aaracastoc wit and genuine fun, check this book out. I enjoy the Coffee house mystery series as well, and the same author writes both, so bonus for me.

A good cozy mystery when you are looking for some light reading. It was hard for me to get into at first but by the end I was hooked. I'm very glad to have found a new (to me) cozy series!

After reading the Epigraph I wasn't sure I would like this book. Jack, the ghost of the title, was killed in 1949 and speaks in a too stereotypical way of that era. I'm glad I kept reading because I did really enjoy this book.

Not the greatest detective book ever, nor a great literary work, but a very entertaining read nonetheless.

TW: suicide

Penelope mentioned how a week before her husband committed suicide he seemed more organized & upbeat. This is a common trait of people who have a plan to kill themselves. They can seem happier, give away some of their important belongings, be more outgoing, etc. If you know someone who is dealing with depression & they all of a sudden are acting like this, don't be afraid to talk to them about it. Asking someone about suicide won't plant the idea in their head or encourage them do it.
