i have to say that i absolutely adored emily henry’s writing. i haven’t felt this way about an author’s writing in such a long time. i felt an immediate connection and fully immersed myself into this world (let’s just ignore the fact that i started this book over a year ago and temporarily forgot it existed… i came back to it, and it felt like i never left, that’s all that matters). i’m actually so excited to further explore her other titles!
the exploration of sibling dynamics was one of the particular aspects i fixated on in this story; the writing about siblings experiencing their childhoods differently despite living through the same situations is what truly made me fall in love with this book. growing up with someone makes you feel you have the deep-rooted understanding of one another and it’s all formed from this emotional connection through childhood traumas of sorts. it’s so interesting to see how certain situations can shape two people in such differing ways, depending upon their own personal views and what they take away from those moments - how they choose to live their lives based upon these experiences they have had then and the new ones they have along the way. it does feel crushing when you realize you may not actually understand someone the way you once thought, when you know someone for their entire lives you just kind of just assume they were seeing something the same way as you- it’s all so confusing, but obviously it’s all still valid.

the romance aspect, well… let’s just say i pictured this book with the cast of gilmore girls the entire time. it was a marvelous time, indeed. i was wiggling my feet and smiling throughout the book, i’m fully obsessed. when it’s literally just gilmore girls reimagined… i’m in love.
actually, let’s just spiral into my delusion…
first we have nora (basically a blonde rory gilmore) who loves books, considers her mom her best friend, prioritizes work over emotions, and carries the weight of all the expectations (real and imagined) on her shoulders.
there’s charlie (we love u jess), who had struggled in school until he took the time to discover himself, reads avidly and works at a bookstore, and presents himself with this brooding energy- he sometimes talks feelings but he usually prefers to just cut to the chase (though he’s always available to banter all things bookish). he also has the most whimsical free-spirited mother that is juxtaposed to his sharpness (just like jess).
and then we can even add shepherd (dean …) to this list - bringing in the small town boyish vibes, works in construction, and also previously resided in chicago but now dreams of that small town family life.
i would counter that libby, nora’s sister, could possibly be considered lorelai (or even lane) in terms of their friendship with one another.
i tend to turn everything into the things i love just to make it an even more fun experience. i didn’t initially intend to make this review turn into a gilmore girls discussion post, but the more i read this book the more i realized [that, to me..] this is just rory and jess fully flushed out in another universe and it made me feel all the cutesy feelings that made me completely fall in love with this book.
note that i’ve also just been watching a little too much gilmore girls recently.

he de decir que me ha dado mucha ansiedad leer cómo la cabeza de Nora iba a mil por hora porque mi cabeza va un poco así también (y una siempre se horroriza cuando vive en tercera persona un rasgo propio supongo), pero en general me ha gustado mucho.
no tengo mucho que decir porque todavía estoy procesando algunas cosas, pero me gusta mucho la idea de que el concepto de final feliz no es el mismo para todo el mundo. Nora es una protagonista con una personalidad súper bien definida y su final es exactamente lo que cuadraba con ella. la verdad es que siempre pienso mucho (y estos días aún más) en que el día ideal de alguien puede ser el día menos atractivo de otra persona, y me ha gustado mucho ver cómo emily henry daba espacio a los personajes de ser felices a su manera
dicho esto, tengo que decir que ninguna de las dos hermanas me ha caído bien (aunque las entiendo perfectamente y me ha encantado lo bien hecha que está su dinámica) y que Charlie es literalmente perfecto y todo lo que manifiesto para mi vida futura
