Začala jsem čtecí maraton knih od Kelly Oram. Nejdřív to byla duologie V is for Virgin a teď už čtu další díl Cinder & Ella. Z toho jaksi vyplývá, že se mi kniha líbila, jinak bych v sérii nepokračovala, že..
Tato série vyšla česky u Baronetu a já to normálně nevěděla. Vážně, pár dní zpět a já jsem netušila, že od této autorky vyšlo něco i v překladu. Každopádně jsem tomu nepodlehla a šla do anglického textu, aniž bych věděla bližší info. A voila? Bylo to fajn. Jakože hodně fajn a jsem z toho čtení v angličtině nadšená. A teď už ke knize.
Četla jsem jedním dechem. Je to strašně jednoduchá angličtina, takže se toho nebojte ani vy. A do těch postav se také zamilujete. Líbilo se mi, že hlavní hrdinka nebyla tak úplně vzhledově typická hlavní postava, ale nehoda na ní zanechala staré jizvy a rány, které jí komplikovaly život. Bylo tam spoustu veselých a vtipných momentů, ale také spoustu krutých a smutných okamžiků, které ani mně nebyly úplně příjemné. Sice je to jen jeden z dalších předělaných příběhů o Popelce, ale tento byste si rozhodně neměli nechat ujít.

Ok, so I really enjoyed this book. I thought it would be another cheesy ya romance (I needed an easy book to read after delving into Sabrina and some sci-fi stories), but it was a comical, endearing book that I read into the night. It was a simple story line that jumped into the complexities of a new family member, Ella, joining her father's family and the emotional upheaval blended families may endure. I thought the author really dove into the technicalities of it and the romance with Cinder was adorable and snarky.

Está lleno de clichés pero eso no le frena para ser una historia preciosa, de esas que te hacen suspirar y reflexionar (porque no, no todo es romance; también hay espacio para temas duros y sentimientos tan complejos y complicados como humanos).
Un "friends to lovers" que se cuece a fuego lento, que te hace suspirar y que te deja con una sonrisa en los labios. 100% recomendado.
Está lleno de clichés pero eso no le frena para ser una historia preciosa, de esas que te hacen suspirar y reflexionar (porque no, no todo es romance; también hay espacio para temas duros y sentimientos tan complejos y complicados como humanos).
Un "friends to lovers" que se cuece a fuego lento, que te hace suspirar y que te deja con una sonrisa en los labios. 100% recomendado.

I finished this book about three hours ago and I needed some time to gather all my thoughts and feelings, both the good and the bad one. I'm not even sure if I can explain everything right in this review, but I will do my very best. Especially because a friend of mine was curious what I would think of this book and because I really wanna answer her burning questions.
Let me start with saying that there were quite some elements in this book that I liked and enjoyed. Although Cinder isn't the kind of guy I would want in my life, he at least reacts in a realistic way and there were quite a few of his speeches that eventually got to me and made me cry. Because yes, he did say those things I, as a person with a disability, do want to hear more often in life. There were also some touching family moments, showing amazing character growth, that really touched me. The positive moments, the beautiful moments, they were nicely done and worked.
However, and this is where my review gets harder to write, the negative moments, and especially the first 1/3rd of the book made me downright angry. Mostly because it all felt so extreme and therefore unrealistic. What I read was a really really extreme situation where the girl with the disability had no support system because everyone behaved like total assholes and didn't even feel ashamed of it. And although there are certainly assholes in this world, there really aren't this many in one mini-world. For a very long time there was literally no one even trying or attempting to do or say the right thing or to listen to Ella.
In a way this book read like it was written by someone who observed a situation, how some people treat people who are different, tried to step in their shoes and wrote that down. Which means that they missed almost all the more nuanced moments. The smaller things, the way more subtle things, hurt on a daily basis often more than the downright hostility. Because you can do something about downright hostility. People notice downright hostility and no one reading this book will think what happens is right. However, in reality there are way and way more moments where it's all more subtile. Where someone really means well, but hurts you anyway because they can't understand. Where it's harder to call them out, because it's much harder to explain what exactly was wrong with what was said or done.
And there are a lot more things that felt unrealistic and way too extreme. A psychologist threatening to put someone in a mental institution without that someone being a danger to themselves or others is extremely problematic (and should be fired immediately) and then I'm not even talking about it being possible to declare an 18 year old girl incapacitated based on one suicide attempt. Just like saying they will remove that status if Ella managed to build a support system. I'm pretty sure every therapist agrees that this is NOT in any way helping or even legal. Especially if the responsible adult, the dad, totally refuses to listen to his intelligent daughter on whatever stupid matter because they have a completely disturbed relationship.
All in all, I think the author did a nice attempt and managed to get some things right, but also created an unrealistic situation and missed all the details. I personally would have enjoyed the story more without the disability, since I don't think that part was done completely realistically, but then you basically get Geekerella.

Das Buch hatte ich schon häufig bei Instagram gesehen und hatte Dank eines Buddyreads jetzt auch endlich die Möglichkeit es selbst zu lesen. Das Cover ist schlicht, aber wunderschön. Der Schreibstil hat mir sehr, sehr gut gefallen. Die Länge der Kapitel ist genau richtig. Die Perspektive wechseln zwischen Ella und Cinder, trotzdem wird es nicht verwirrend. Ella war mir von Anfang an sehr sympathisch. Ich habe mit ihr gelacht, mit ihr geweint und richtig mit ihr mitgelitten. Trotzdem spürt man schnell, dass sie sehr unter den Folgen des Unfalls leidet. Nach und nach erfährt man, welche Auswirkungen der Unfall noch für Ella hat. Zu ihrem Vater hatte Ella, seit ihrer Kindheit keinen Kontakt mehr, trotzdem soll sie nun bei ihm und seiner neuen Familie wohnen. Gerade ihre Stiefschwerstern machen ihr das Leben nicht gerade einfacher. Die größten Probleme hat sie mit Ana, die sich wie die schlimme Stiefschwester in Cinderella verhält. Zu ihrer Stiefmutter Jennifer ist sie zickig, ob wohl diese sich sehr große Mühe gibt, dass Ella sich bei ihnen wohlfühlt. Leider passieren ihr dabei peinliche Dinge. Und auch die Schule wird für Ella zum Spießrutenlauf. Das sie dem Mobbing und den Übergriffen ihrer Mitschüler schutzlos ausgeliefert ist. Der einzige Lichtblick ist in dieser Zeit ihr Chatfreund Cinder, bei dem sie sich seit ihrem Unfall nicht mehr gemeldet hat. Cinder ist ihr Rettungsanker. Doch als Ella unerwartet Freunde findet, spürt sie dass sie nicht so alleine auf der Welt ist, wie sie anfangs dachte. Vivian wird zu einer unerwarteten Unterstützung, dass sie durch ihre ungewöhnliche Familie von ihren Mitschülern gemieden wird. Nach einer Kurzschlussreaktion, muss sie wieder in Behandlung und genau in dieser Zeit spürt und realisiert sie, wie wichtig sie den Menschen in ihrem Umfeld ist.
Brian hasst den Rummel um seine Person. Trotz der ganzen Aufmerksamkeit ist er einsam. Sein Lichtblick ist seine Chatfreundin Ella, die allerdings nicht ahnt wer er wirklich ist. Er hasst es sie anlügen zu müssen. Als sie sich nach einem Jahr wieder bei ihm meldet, wird ihm klar, wie viel sie ihm wirklich bedeutet und dass er mehr als Freundschaft für sie empfindet. Er will sie wirklich kennen lernen und für sie da sein. Dafür riskiert er alles. Doch damit beginnen die Schwierigkeiten.

Anfang dachte ich es wir die typische Lovestory im Cinderellastil, doch da habe ich mich gewaltig getäuscht. Hinter dieser Geschichte verbirgt sich so viel mehr als die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Cinder und Ella. Es ist eine Geschichte über Trauer und Verlust. Eine Geschichte über Ängste. Eine Geschichte über Mobbing. Eine Geschichte über Einsamkeit. Aber ist auch eine Geschichte über Lebensmut Über Freundschaften und Vertrauen. Denn manchmal verhält man sich anderen gegenüber unglaublich mies, weil man ein Problem oder Ängste hat, über die man nicht sprechen möchte. Denn jede Geschichte hat zwei Seiten. Es ist eine besondere Liebesgeschichte, bei der ich nicht erwartet habe, dass sie so tiefgründig ist. Denn unser aller Leben kann sich von einer auf die andere Sekunde komplett verändern. Ellas innere Stärke und ihr Kampfgeist, fand ich sehr bewundernswert, denn viele hätten nach solch einem Schicksalsschlag aufgegeben und sich verkrochen. Ellas Geschichte macht einem Hoffnung, dass es immer weitergeht, wenn man daran glaubt. Dieses Buch sollte mehr als 5 Sterne bekommen.

Heartbreaking and emotional, but yet so beautiful. The story cuts really deep and hurts a lot. But on the other side, it gives us hope and belief in love. Cute and funny. A story about friendship, family and true love. And the best thing, booklovers and hot boys are included! This story left me with a warm feeling and a smile. Highly recommend
