This book is just straight out my kind of read. Fluff & melodrama. And like the whole time I was like, if this is not Disney then I don't know what is.
Ella literally lost everything when she got into that car accident. She's pretty angsty against the world and especially her father. I understand that. She's angry at him because they haven't talked for 10 years but her dad suddenly wanted to take her in is just beyond awkward. And with everything she's been through, I'd like to curl in a ball and cry or just feel nothing. But she pulled through it despite all the trauma.
Brian's character is so fun if not over dramatic. I like him. A lot. But there's something that needs to be done about the fact that he can't stand up against his management team. I could understand if he's still 18 and not at a legal age yet, but he's 22! He should be able to stand up for himself. So... Yeah. A little bit unrealistic there but I love him anyway.
And I love Cinder & Ella's conversation and banters through IM & text messages. They are just so adorable. Like, cuteness overload! But OMG! All the cheesy lines! I had to stop myself from reading another line and go 'Really Brian? No. OMG. No.' *facepalm out of embarrassment*
I kinda wish Oram tune down the melodramatic ness a little bit tho. At some parts I felt like this is just unnecessary and Ella cried too much. I wished it'd be like, stuff just piling up and then explodes at the end. That would've been more dramatic.
In the end, I really did enjoy the book immensely. A little bit unrealistic on some parts here and there but I like it just the way it is! It's a perfect book for any YA Contemporary lover or for anyone who just wants to take a break and read something cute and fluffy :)
PS: That cover is SO not doing it for me though. Something needs to be done about it. A) All of Kelly Oram's other books are definitely CUTER than this. B) I TOTALLY did not imagine Brian's face like that. Probably more like Dylan O'Brien

Meine Meinung:
Bereits 2019 hat mich die Geschichte angesprochen und sehr fasziniert. Schließlich war die Idee originell und ich war wirklich gespannt darauf, wie die ganze Cinderella Story mit dem Autounfall zusammen laufen sollte. Jedoch hatte ich im letzten Jahr nicht so viel Zeit zum lesen. weshalb dieses Buch erstmal nach hinten gerutscht und in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Doch als ich mir Anfang des Jahres die kostenlosen zwei Wochen für Bookbeat geholt habe, kam dieses Buch als Vorschlag sofort wieder hoch und ich war sofort Feuer und Flamme. Das Cover ist unglaublich schön und sehr stimmig. Die Farben sind stimmig. Der matte türkise Hintergrund und die lachsfarbenden Blumen, wo sich der weiße Titel leicht versteckt, verbindet sich zu einer hübschen Einheit. Der Klappentext wirkt auf den ersten Blick sofort wie eine Neuauflage des Cinderella-Märchens, wo die Geschichte jedoch in die moderne Welt verschoben wurde, weshalb es gerade so interessant für die heutige Jugend wirkt.
Da mich bereits der Klappentext voll und ganz in das Lesefieber gezogen hatte, war ich so unglaublich gespannt auf die Umsetzung des ganzen. Durch den Aspekt der Moderne trennen sich Geschichten von Cinderella und Ellamara schon relativ früh. Zwar sind Grundaspekte immer noch gleich, aber die Verbindung dieser unterscheidet sich. Nach den ersten Kapiteln war ich sofort drinnen und es hat einfach unglaublich viel Spaß gemacht die Geschichte zu verfolgen. Es kam sogar so weit, dass meine Nerven am Ende richtig blank lagen, weil ich so überwältigt von der Handlung war. Dieses ständige hin und her, war nicht gut für mein Herz. Nur das einfache Schlusswort ließ mich etwas zurück, weil es so abrupt einfach vorbei war und ich war traurig darüber, dass es, nach knapp 11h, "schon" vorbei war. Meine Freude daran, die Geschichte zu verfolgen, lag bis zu letzt auch an den Sprechern, die den sehr angenehmen Schreibstil unglaublich gut rübergebracht haben. Sie brachten den Text leicht verständlich rüber und die Stimmfarben waren einfach nur herrlich.
Jedoch hatte ich anfänglich Probleme mit den Charakteren. Brian verhielt sich nicht wirklich rational und wirkte eher wie ein 14-jähriger Teenager als ein 22-jähriger Hollywoodschauspieler. Oft habe ich mich über sein Verhalten gewundert und es hinterfragt. Tatsächlich nervte mich sein Charakter in den ersten Kapiteln sogar unglaublich. Auch Ellas Verhalten gegenüber ihrer neuen Familie war am Anfang wirklich gemein und man hat sich gefragt, wer in dieser Konstellation die böse Schwester ist. Jedoch konnte man sich in ihre Lage gut hineinversetzen und erklären, wieso sie oft so verbittert reagiert hat. Doch seitdem die beiden Protagonisten wieder in Kontakt miteinander getreten sind, ändern sich die Charaktere zu etwas besserem. Die Charaktere weisen eine eigene Tiefe auf.

Das Buch war ein unglaubliches Highlight für mich diesen Monat. Es hat mich sehr überzeugt und komplett verzaubert. Das Buch und diese unglaublich schöeńe Geschichte erhält von mir 4 1/2 von 5 ⭐.

i usually don't write reviews but im just sooo annoyed
i really wanted to like this book (i mean, a disabled latina mc ??? sign me up !!¡¡!!) but ugh.
anyway im just going to talk about the things i didn't like:
-ella's dad: it's been a while since i hated a character this much. he's honestly the Worst. he left her when she was 8 and then ignored her ??? AND kept her as secret ???? it's just so fucked up. the scene where he didn't want her to go to a public school made me So Mad honestly what the fuck???????? it was obviously the best for her. and don't get me started on the “She raised you as if you were all Chilean. She completely ignored the fact that you were half white—half my child.” scene. that scene just made me hate him more.
-brian: i wanted to like him i really did but he's just another rich boring straight white boy and the fake engagement storyline was so unnecessary
-jennifer: i didn't care about her but i hated when she said the plastic surgery thing it was so mean and i also hated that she tried to defend her daughters' actions (ik they're her daughters but jesus)
-THE SLUT SHAMING IM SO TIRED OF IT
-latino stereotypes
-the scene where they wanted to install ella in a mental hospital because she wasn't being social ???? she was recovering from a big trauma and going to school she didn't even want to attend in the first place. WHAT DID THEY EXPECT
-another thing; i rlly wanted to know more about ella's relationship with her mom
-and speaking of which. i HATED that they tried to villainize ella's mom just to make her dad more likable. that made me hate him so much more
-the twins: i didn't care about them tbh
-rob liking ella was so unnecessary (god. i hate straight people and their unnecessary love triangles)

This was the cheesiest book I ever read and I loved every page of it.

First of all, I didn't hate this book, that's why I gave it 2 stars and for a fairy tale retelling it's not too bad. I just wouldn't reread it and it was definitely too cheesy and unrealistic for me (I mean, I shipped Ella way more with one of the side characters than with the other main character).
The developement of their relationship was all right, but for me, they just didn't have chemistry.
I also didn't love the authors writing style.
