Wow again. Do you see a second book slump? I don't. This book had amazing plot and character growth. Everything was so emotionally complicated for Kiva and it felt convincing. The family dynamics were very interesting, but I would've liked to know more about how the rebels work. Once again, Jaran is being dumb by trusting her too much. Jaran's cousin is also too trusting. This almost felt like the end of a trilogy, if she had succeeded at the end by coming clean. I like when the characters fail though. Also didn't see the royal rebel collaboration coming.

Literally one of the best YA fantasy books I’ve read in a while! This reminds me of when I read the We Hunt the Flame duology and literally just fell in love with those characters and the world.

Kiva is such a compelling protagonist and I love her character development and the friendships she makes in this part of the series. And the ending!!!

The last pages had me shook!
She wrote such an intricate work of art!
